Weta Workshop Sculptor’s Tabletop Miniature World!
Adam Savage checks in on the status of sculptor Johnny Fraser-Allen’s tabletop model, which has grown from the intricate Labyrinth we saw two years ago to a sprawling world steeped in fantasy architecture and landscapes that come alive. We’re awestruck by the design and details of these models, which Johnny has brilliantly made to be modular and customizable. We can’t wait to play in Hagglethorn Hollow! Get updates on this project here.

I would love to have 1 tenth of the skill that these people embody into their work.
I love these videos .. always very inspiring. I wish I could do this as a hobby (if not a career).
Anyone has any ideas how someone could get started in something like this, especially since I don’t have a art education (drawing, modeling, etc.)?
sketch some ideas in a notepad, then load up tinkercad.com and start modeling them!
Thanks Norm .. I will try to make some time to do sketching and try my hands at 3D modeling 🙂
What amazing & beautiful & CLEVER work!!!
Incredible. A worthy update to an extraordinary debut. , please tell us that Tested will let us know when it goes Kickstarter?
Awesome, Incredible Work Johnny.
yep! looks like it’s going to be Sept 26th!
Johnny’s passion for what he does is truly inspiring. As Adam said, it makes you want to to just make something! I’ll be watching out for the models and getting the 3D printer ready!
Don’t know what I want more – The Chronicle Collectibles Jareth statue or Johnny’s custom-made labyrinth with complete cast of miniatures.
I’m not a gamer, but I would buy all these trees and put them in a terrarium…. UGGGGH….. ME WANT TO BUY NOW! TAKE MY MONEY PLEEEEESE!!!
Just start! Buy some
Sculpey and a few sculpting tools. Watch
some sculpting videos to get some tips. Choose something from the video above that you like, sculpt a copy of it and paint
it. Make two, the second using what you
learned from the first. Don’t stop till
you have the second one complete to your satisfaction. You will surprise yourself!
The best part about Adam is that despite being a world class model maker who, worked making models on STAR WARS of all franchises among others, his interviews with guys like Johnny always come off as if he’s the newbie seeing some incredible new thing. That shows true love of making.
I love this guy’s imagination. He’s brilliant as both an artist and a conceptualist.
Why couldn’t a theme park use the same idea full size? It could change out the stories and adventures every few months to keep the content fresh.
W.O.W. This is gorgeous. Truly. This is so similar to things Ive fantasized of building and he does it so well. I love it.
As you’ve said before yourself, Adam: You have the best job in the world.
Good of you, who can do it, to promote his (and other) work as well. 🙂 Well done.
I’ve needed to mod and upgrade my 3D printer for awhile. Now this is a good reason!
wow this is beautifull , his passion is contagious , the twinkle in his eyes when he talks about .
This is so fascinating to watch.. and think ! Really kind of demo that makes you want enter 3D era , But also, makes concepts such as modularity visible. Thanks Adam again for this great interviews -and ofcourse sculptor Johnny Fraser-Allen’s for your work !
