Adam Savage’s Ghostbusters Costume
To celebrate both Halloween this week and the 30th anniversary of the release of Ghostbusters, Adam shares his own Ghostbusters uniform and prop replicas that he has made and assembled over the years. We geek out over fond memories of the film and its contributions to cosplay culture. This is a costume that anybody can make!

In honor of honoring Ghostbusters 30th… Here’s my wife and I as Vinz and Zuul.

Love the Ghostbusters costume, Adam!
Speaking of Ghostbusters, you guys should do a commentary video with Adam on this movie. That would be so rad! 😎
This is my Ghostbusters Proton pack, PKE Meter and ghost trap from when I was a kid, So glad I kept hold of them.
MAN! I had that as well. Wish I had kept it 🙁
Perfection!
I believe the gun part of the Proton Pack is called the wand.
So many things I could mention on this and I’m sure other RPF guys will bring them up, but Adam, elbow pads on your knees…? No Ghost logo on the name badge area…? And it’s a neutrona wand. Apart from that still cool Adam but needs some tweaks 😉
That transition at 1:22 was perfect! Nice work, Joe!
Oh I was so deflated when the proton pack didn’t make the high-pitched “charging up” sound (like a flash) 🙁
I think Will’s probably a few years older than I am, but I did see Ghostbusters at a drive-in when I was 5. At a very recent preschool parent-teacher conference I was asked why my 4 year old had been allowed to watch Ghostbusters. Then the next day he told them all about Jaws 😀
Good thing he hasn’t mentioned Spaceballs (which is inexplicably PG!)
The gun is a neutrino wand, although I’m guessing maybe your spell check messed up the spelling.
Also fun fact: PKE meter is short for Psychokinetic Energy Meter. Anyways, nice work as always guys I like the costumes that are a little more hack-y and personalized as opposed the the 1:1 replicas.
Unfortunately all my ghostbusters toys made their way into the trash when I left for college years ago but those photos certainly bring back memories, happy Halloween!
Hot damn I’m getting some powerful childhood flashbacks right now.
Same here.
I used too own this as a kid but to this day I’ve still never seen Ghostbusters. I’m only now (at the age of 25) finding out what this toy actually was.
I should probably go back and fill In this hole in my movie knowledge.
Never forget that first time seeing Ghostbusters in the movie theater….we didn’t even get out of our seats, just waited for the next showtime….great stuff
The Hasbro version of the wand has all the sound effects built in and they’re triggered by the appropriate switches. Bonus points – they’re loud an clear sounding.
Awesome. I’m the same age as Adam and Ghostbusters brings back so many memories for me. I’m going to watch it with my kids Halloween night.
I made my Ghostbuster costume around ten years ago, back when all of the big GB prop builders were hanging out on the old ASAP costuming board. At one point I did a small run of some of the machined aluminum knobs as well as the bellows. I also wrote up a very brief guide to making your own GB costume on Instructables- I managed to make two complete costumes for myself and a friend in two weeks.
If anyone is considering making a costume just do it- you won’t regret it and it’s one of the best costumes ever and it looks great on everyone. I still wish I had my costume but maybe someday I’ll make another one.
Pics of my very quickly built proton pack and trap-
-Who you gonna call?
-He-Man! He-Man! He-Man!
Will might’ve been thinking of Tim’s night vision goggles from Jurassic Park when recalling lights around the lenses 🙂
