Worldbuilding and Storytelling in Disney’s Big Hero 6
Norm visits Disney Animation Studios to get a preview of Big Hero 6, the upcoming film that is Disney’s first animated feature based on a Marvel comics property. We interview the directors of Big Hero 6 to learn about the worldbuilding that went into creating this film, and what storytelling lessons have been learned under the guidance of John Lasseter.

Another wonderful interview, … 👍
Awesome! Great interview, aside from the microphone situation. Also props to the guy who did the audio, making the off microphone bits still easily understandable. Some next level automation. Better than that podcast of Still Untitled where Adam was barely hearable and we had Will’s nose whistling on the foreground. hehe
Great to see my Premium dollars hard at work splashing out on two mic’s for three people :-p
Seriously though really interesting interview, more content like this please!
Cool to see you guys covering this! I worked on the movie and there’s a few of my pieces that end up being show in the video
Thats really cool. Were you involved in the little golden book as well?
I wanted to get my request for a Big Hero 6 spoilercast out there. After having seen the movie on Sunday afternoon, all I can say is that it is the perfect movie for Tested and its readers.
From the standpoint of tech and movie geeks, the movie is awesome because of the field that Hiro and his brother are in, plus the storytelling and coming-of-age stories are told really, really well.
From the standpoint of makers though, this movie really comes into its own. Hiro’s shop with his CNC machines, 3D printers, electrical prototyping areas and even his laser scanner are all staples of the modern maker’s diet.
I will admit that I actually cried through most of the movie – especially at the part where Hiro says the line: “Tadashi, I have to go here”. This experience paralleled my own experience of finally getting into a school that allowed me to excel and fluorish in the engineering technology field that as meant for me. And there are alot of the other great parts too, which made me feel most at home with the content.
Just my thoughts, but if I can gauge your excitement at this movie with your reaction to talking with the people at Disney, you’ve already recorded one and I just have to wait!
