Tested Builds: Millennium Falcon Studio Scale Replica, Part 3

Will and Norm continue their build of the DeAgostini Millennium Falcon kit, a 1:1 replica of the studio model used for The Empire Strikes Back. At this stage, we’re still building out the cockpit of the model, and examine some of the greeblies that will get attached to the exterior. Thanks to everyone for following along for these past few weeks of build. If you’re not a member and want to support us, please consider signing up for a Tested Premium Membership here! 1. From what I remember Han’s Kessel Run was a shortcut where he shaved off a few parsecs off the distance which normally was 18.

It was so named because it was a secret route though a dangerous section of space from the planet Kessel that smugglers took to escape patrols. They had a set route that was around 18 parsecs long, shaving off that distance meant you were going either blindly though a asteroid field on one side or through a cluster of black holes on the other.

So bragging you could make the Kessel Run in anything below the 18 norm was a mark of pride for both the ships capability and the captains skill.

  2. Earth has ALWAYS been in the Star Wars universe.

I don’t remember where (he says sarcastically), but in one of the movies it clearly states: “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…”

  3. Quick question. The two control knob things that fell out when Will was dicking with the cockpit, should those be glued in?

  4. I wish these features were grouped into playlists or something. Finding the next video in a series is always a hassle (does Part 2 even exist? site search doesn’t find it).

  5. Thanks

(something must be a bit broken with the search, it finds other premium vids just fine)

  6. I remember reading “Splinter of the Mind’s Eye” as a teenager and vividly recall that cover art. I recall that it was written by Alan Dean Foster, who seemed to be the king of movie novelizations back in the 1970s. Just Like you, I was hungry to gobble up just about anything Star Wars-related back then. Did you read “Han Solo at Star’s End” or “Han Solo’s Revenge” as well? I think these were written by Brian Daley.

  7. In the extended universe it was a cluster of Black holes. My understanding of Star Wars physics (though I believe this holds true in our reality as well), is that when travelling near a black hole, the faster you go, the closer to the gravity well you can get without being sucked in, thus the shorter the distance the faster you were going.

  8. You really wouldn’t want to get close to a black holes gravity well, while the actual distance might be shaved off a bit you would loose a lot of time in the process. The stronger the source of the gravity well the slower time would move for you while it would move normally for anyone not affected by that pull.

So if you were smuggling spice for a Hutt cartel and you need to be at a planet for the hand-off on a certain date, traveling too close to black holes while it would shorten the distance traveled the time traveled would increase leading you to be late at the drop off point. (Hutts don’t like it when your late)

  9. Agreed! And it looks good.

OMG all this time, Peter Jackson was right about HFR video…. we should be watching Tested at 60 parsecs.

  10. Guys, it’s a YT-1300 Corellian Light Freighter. But in this case it’s been severely tweaked and worked over. There are tons of YT-1300 flying around in the Star Wars setting. But only one Millennium Falcon.

To put it another way, Ford made a heap of 1934 3 window coupes. But then some guy comes along, lowers it, puts in a larger engine, custom interior and paint, and fits wider mag wheels. And he’s taken a generic 1934 Ford 3 window coupe, and turned it into a hot rod.

The Millennium Falcon is simply the fastest hot rod in the Star Wars ‘verse.

    😉
