Tested Builds: LEGO Sandcrawlers, Part 6
The build has pushed past a week as we move onto day 6, and the dreaded tread assembly. The LEGO Sandcrawler is 3300 pieces, but several hundred of those are just tiny treads! And they are monotonous to assemble. To watch and follow along with the build, sign up for a Tested Premium Membership by clicking here.

Team Will!
Go, Norm! We believe in you !!!
After seeing these tracks go on, I now want to buy one of these kits…
.
Even though I am rooting for Norm, Will is so efficient in his building process, that I fear Norm has little to no chance of catching up…
Team Will!
Norm needs to narrate his frustrations more like at the beginning. Makes for great entertainment!
The Krayt dragon hunting Will refers to was in Star Wars: Galaxies…a real shame that game got messed with and died.
I think Norm may be missing a 2×1 plate on one of his pillars…it has been hanging since before he started on the tread bogies and treads…I hope that is not a huge fix needed there!
When I saw the Lego Movie, my first thought was how odd it was that the Lego movie message was, don’t follow instructions.
Totally agree Will.
I Wonder when will notices that he missed pieces joining the 2 halves of his second tread sections.
I don’t think the Lego movie was totally going for an anti-instructions kind of message. It seemed that the whole point of the submarine sequence was to show that without any kind of instructions as a foundation, and lack of teamwork, things kind of fall apart.
Without giving away too much of the later half, it seemed Emmet was kind of the logical hero in this because he came from a background of following the rules, then learned how to break them using a team to cooperatively collaborate.
More of like a pragmatic message — I suppose — i took from it.
In the Lego movie, there is both a celebration of structured building (kits) in the construction sequences (as the whole of society building a vast, well designed world), a celebration of creativity, and a condemnation of stagnation (gluing everything down).
I dont think it is anti-instruction, just anti-glue :p
It’s true that there are alway extra pieces in a kit, but they’re usually small ones. If you have two extra 1×4 plates, like Will had after bag 8 – You’ve probably missed a step.
Is anyone else unable to watch past 1:11 due to the video cutting out? EDIT – Never mind, it’s working now 🙂
Good points. I had forgotten about the emphasis on structure later in the movie.
The most comical part is that Lego is selling instruction-based kits of the Master Builders’ impromptu creations.
I totally agree! It’s basically saying “just because you bought the Speedboat kit, doesn’t mean you can’t build a Spaceship instead” (SPACESHIP!!! Spaceshipspaceshipspaceship!!!!).
