  1. This entertains me beyond belief. As a regular drinker of protein shakes, I think I might have an advantage when it comes to choking down powdered chemicals. I might have to give version 5 or 6 of soylent a go.

  2. Kind of miss Wills encouraging comments. And maybe a kitchen would be a good place to prepare your meals. Come to think of it any please sutible for a good hose down afterwards would do.

  3. While Norm has a really cool place and all. I too miss hearing Will’s running commentary on this whole process. It’s just not the same without his pearls of offbeat wisdom.. 😄

  4. They’re Olly Moss’s limited edition Star Wars posters sold by Mondo. They’ve been OOP for years. The question is are they originals or reproductions?

  5. Would have loved more Will comments haha. The powder aspect of it makes it seem even more of a mess than real cooking for me. The videos are entertaining me to no end though.

  6. I wanted to try Soylent before this series started. I want to try it ever more now, thanks ! I think it’s interesting how much it seems to split opinions, I would’ve thought would be more open to trying something new like this, that’s been an eye opener!

  7. s ineptitude at preparing the drink is hilarious. How anyone can make such a simple task so convoluted and complicated is beyond my comprehension, yet somehow Norm is able to do so.

The Soylent but deadly comment did crack me up, but for the love of God will you please just mix the powder and water in two halves and combine it all in the pitcher at the end… it’s really not that difficult!

  8. Mix powder with water in smaller batches to reduce the clumping of the powder. I think you’re also better off not using the blender to incorporate the powder into the liquid, maybe instead using a hand mixer or something with better torque.

Just had a terrible thought – soylent tempura batter *shudders*

Also – OW my ears. Stupid earbuds @

  9. Hahaha! “A little putt-putt, EVERYWHERE!” Classic quote.

    “Soylent but deadly” ?

I think it’s time to revoke someone’s pun permit.

  10. I remember reading a blurb a while back that it takes much better if you let it sit and absorb for a few hours before you drink/eat it. I wonder how much of a difference it makes.

  11. A larger capacity blender would help. Also, try peanut butter and bananas.

Bananas and berries are good as well.

I’ve been looking forward to these videos every day.

  12. I still don’t get what this stuff is!

if you are mixing fruit and butters into it – it is nothing more than a high carb soy protien power.

Bodybuilders have been using this for years – why is this special?

  13. It looks like your blender lid has two parts, the large white doughnut part and a clear cap that twist into the middle.

If you unscrew the clear center cap from the lid there will be enough space to incorporate your bananas/berries/whatevers next without making that big of a mess like you do when you take the whole lid off.

  14. I agree, just mix per meal.

since you already know that one bag is supposed to be for one day, so it should last for at least 3 meals.

simply divide the amount of water, powder and fish-oil by 3 and mix them that way.

  15. As always very entertaining 🙂

    Some suggestions from experience.

Depending on how much extra stuff I add, at most I only put half a
bag at a time in the blender to get the right ratio of water (sometimes only a
3rd). Use warm water from the tap (thankfully I have a well) helps powders dissolve.
I do not recommend drinking it immediately after mixing as it needs time to
dissolve and chill in the fridge. The ice cubs are only really there to aid in
the mixing as they can help smash up clumps. My blender seems to have the power
of a category 5 hurricane so I just let it blend for a while. I put it in separate
drinking containers for each meal so I can shake it before drinking. Now I do
not live on the stuff, but it serves as the majority of my breakfast and lunches
    during the work days.

I’ll tell you what, it make anything else for dinner taste
soooooo awesome. Especially trips to the steakhouse.

Can’t wait to see the final video. I think living on it is crazy.

  16. Some tips for you.

    1. If you’re going to blend fruit/ice, etc, into the mix, start with the ice and fruit and about 1/2 of the water in your blender. Start blending with pulses, not just ‘on’. You want to pulse it until the ice is broken up decently, not completely, but large chunks interfere with the vortex formation that cycles material in a blender to get an even blend. Once you get it broken up a bit, then put it on a low constant speed, you should see a funnel form in the center where the material is rising up the sides then swirling into the middle and down. After you’ve got that mixed up (not too fine mind you, hence hte low speed) then add in 1/4 of your powder and blend on the same low setting. Then add in the other 1/4 of the powder. Put that in the pitcher then repeat for the second half liter.

    2. You’ve got 2L of the stuff to drink, 1 ounce is a little over 30ml. I’ve experimented with a couple of ‘small portion, many meals’ type diets to maintain energy, lose weight, etc. You can borrow heavily from that.. start your day with a small 8ounce portion. Like immediately… get up, don’t even brush your teeth. use the bathroom if you have to, but otherwise, make the first thing you do when you get up be drinking at least 8oz of the Soylent. This kicks the metabolism in and will actually wake you up pretty fast given the protein and carb content in the soylent itself. Then do your normal morning thing and have another 8oz.

I don’t know your daily schedule but you want to break the concept of “lunch” while doing this, about an hour before you’d normally do lunch, have 16oz of the soylent. 2 hours after lunch, have another 8oz of Soylent. Then about 3-4 hours before you’re going to go to sleep, have another 16oz of soylent. If you know you’re going to be up late for whatever reason, break the dinner into 2 8oz portions but make sure you get the last one in at LEAST 2 hours before you go to lay down. You basically want to be putting something into your system every 3-4 hours during the day. Key rules: consume immediately upon waking up, spread meals out every 3-4 hours with possible “big meals” in the middle of the day or early evening well before sleep. You’ve got basically 4x 16oz servings you need to down.

    3. Get some almond extract and vanilla extract. It’s very low calorie so it won’t impact the actual nutritional value of the Soylent much and I’ve found Almond extract works freaking wonders on that weird Protein aftertaste. Also, mango does AMAZING things for water based protein shakes if you want to add fruit.

I love what you’re doing, I think it’s funny, interesting, and rather brave to be honest. I’m already eyeballing a 1 week supply for myself just so I can see what it’s really like and test it for a possible nutritional suppliment when I start my next big work out program.

  17. Holy shit, that is messy!

Also, this doesn’t seem convenient at all, haha. It took Norm 10 minutes to make something disgusting, whereas it takes me about 15 minutes to make an excellent red curry dish… and nothing beats red curry.

  18. I’m pretty sure there’s already something out there that does the same thing… it’s called Ensure. Welp.
