Let’s Build: Codename Colossus Robot, Part 3

Sean shows off the intricate turret and gattling gun assemblies of the robot, which use some cool animatronic tricks to give them their action. We take a closer look at the control board as well to deciper how the pieces are all wired together.

  1. The old table arrangement where you faced each other was better. I feel like Jeremy is getting left out of stuff this way. When he asked about the little bonus mech he didn’t even get an answer

Also, ‘non ferrous’ means it contains no ferrite which is iron. As for why it’s not magnetic I do not know

  2. Brass is a copper alloy, like bronze and aluminum bronze. Magnetism is also referred to as ferro-magnetism when it is not artificially induced. Loads of different steels are not magnetic, even though they contain iron (Steel is defined as alloyed iron). These are non-ferritic, or non-ferrous steels, and are called that because the heat treatment of the steels has changed the structure of the iron to render it (among other things) non- (or at least almost) magnetic. Look up martensitic steel, for example. There’s more to it than I’ve outlined here, of course. A lot more. Steel is a lifetime of study.

Agreeing on the table arrangement issue.

Still loving the bot and the build.

  3. The closeup camera on Sean his workspace has such a different color profile, it makes the model make much more gray then the others where it shows green.

Wich of the colors is the closest to the real model? The grey I hope.

  4. As to the cinematic universe that thing belongs in: it clearly is inspired by either Katsuhiro Ôtomo’s Steamboy (2004) or Cannon Fodder (1995)

  5. I fell in love with this model when it was first shown on tested. At the time I hadn’t a premium membership and the builds you do on here didn’t even cross my mind. Fast forward to today and I do now have a premium membership and have been enjoying all the goodies that come along with it. However this model had slipped from my mind and I never dreamt it would appear on a week of build. Hence my delight when I come to tested and see the new videos. I have just finished part 3 and I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying following along with this build. While I do enjoy the other build videos with guests, and watch them while I am making myself, I sometimes feel they are conducted more as an informal interview and the models mostly get ignored. The nice thing about this week of build is its just watching 3 friends build together. There is no need to get to know the people building so more focus can be put on the model, its design, how it goes together, how it works, etc. its nice to watch the three of you build together. Same reason I like the bits to atoms series so much. I now need to go and find the TED talk on this model as I haven’t seen it yet. Thanks for the hours of entertainment.
