Let’s Build: First Contact Enterprise-E Model

We’ve previously built the original Star Trek Enterprise, and now we jump forward to the final Enterprise we see on screen: the Enterprise 1710-E from the Next Generation films. This rare Bandai model kit is beautifully finished and has built-in lighting!

  1. Norm’s right, the Enterprise NCC-1701 (and A) were Constitution class. The Stargazer (the first ship commanded by Picard) was a Constellation class.

And just for further info, the Enterprise-B was Excelsior class, and -C was Ambassador class.

Also, the Defiant isn’t destroyed in First Contact, just disabled.

I also thought the gray-shouldered uniforms premiered on DS9 before First Contact.

I think the slot at the back of the saucer section is the primary shuttle bay, the one at the back of the engineering hull is the secondary shuttle bay.

  2. NAY-cell is correct, as in “I’d like to get my hands on her ample NAY-celles, if you’ll pardon the engineering parlance.”

  3. I’ll give you the Trek series’ version, as I think Geordi pronounced it that way a few times as well, but my quote above is from one of the more recent movies. Which means Norm’s simply going with new Scotty’s more recent pronunciation. Nothing wrong with that.

  4. you definitely should be in this. Exactly because you’re not the same level of StarTrek nerd as Norm is. That gives him the chance to geek out and tell you everything about it (and by that us viewers too).

Imagine if Norm’s clone was in there – then it would just be “You don’t need to tell me that, I know all that stuff already” or questions wouldn’t be asked in the first place. 🙂 – or opposite someone not interested in StarTrek/SciFI at all. “Can you shut up, I want to build this model and not hear stories about some TV show and its spin-off movies” ;->

For completeness sake: Enterprise-D was Galaxy class and Enterprise-E was Sovereign class.

  6. Excellent subject, good guys to do it. BUT the visuals need some rethinking. Close-ups of the work areas — that ARE close-ups — would be very nice. I know this is suggesting another video person for live re-framing. But I think it’s important.

I’m with Norm ST6 is very good– ahh, not the “best” — for that I turn to ST2!

  7. Star Trek Destination Europe in Birmingham, England in Oct 2016, had Marina there. She was still very enthusiastic about being in Star Trek at that time. 🙂

  8. I just love building stuff with this kind of videos running on my working table. Its nice and inspiring. In a world of tempo and high speed editing, its so relaxing watching two guys taking their time, taking it easy and just build cool things while having a nice conversation. Thanks!
