PREMIUM – Let’s Build: Tiny Tesla Coil, Part 1
Jeremy, Norm, and Sean take on a build that wowed us at Maker Faire: a tiny desktop Tesla Coil that plays music! As we solder the pieces together, we’re using the kit to try to better understand how a Tesla Coil works!

I built one of these in the August 2015, I should have visually checked each part, while it was supposedly a UK kit, some of the components turned out to not be rated for 240 volts. A number of parts blew and the fuse vaporized (melting a hole in one side of the cap). It did make a nice pop when turned on.
It blew the important parts: the IRGB4620D, the ultra-fast soft recovery diode that does the switching, and the 3N256, 2A Bridge Rectifier. It was handy having spares.
Clear acrylic varnish sealed the coil.
Not much left in there. High voltage can be dangerous and this fuse did it’s job but could have exploded.
I enjoyed building the kit, learned my lesson, check everything (for UK parts) and looking forward to building the BIGGER one.
the bridge rectifier is designed to convert A/C current into pulses of D/C current.
also, one of the reasons they people use IC sockets is so that people don’t damage the IC if they solder them incorrectly and cause heat to the IC.
I didn’t see it. Do you have a time stamp so I can have a look? Also didn’t notice anything on Tested 2017 – Jeremy William’s favourite things.

NICE post
This is going to be awesome 🙂 Evil lair material MwahahhHAHAAhahaha…
Also, I think the American flag ink is on the arm of one of the off-screen helpers actually. It looks like a full sleeve down to the wrist and it’s not visible any other time in the vid past that one overhead view, right?
The arm (and the accompanying hand) repositioning a soldering station so that it annoys Sean instead of a camera looks awfully lot like the arm I last saw fondling a backpack in a “favorite things” video and, at the time, was attached to Ryan Kiser.
Ryesmeister could get one of these for those covert production op needs:
is it me or does the audio on this episode leave much to be desired?
I hear a lot of “echoing”/Reverb
