HTC Vive Cosmos VR Headset Review
We test and review the new HTC Cosmos, the replacement for the original HTC Vive virtual reality headset. The Cosmos is a big departure from HTC’s previous desktop VR headsets, and we discuss its ergonomics, image quality, inside-out tracking fidelity, and new controllers. Identical ergonomic problems to my two year old HP WMR headset. Crazy.
I feel like most of these 1.5 gen headsets are overpriced for what you’re getting. Both the Rift S and Cosmos don’t have significantly better visuals compared to launch WMR headsets, so you’re paying hundreds more for a little better tracking. The HP Reverb offers insanely good visuals, but still has WMR 1.0 tracking.
So basically if you wanna try out VR or if you’re primarily into flight/driving sims, get a $150-250 WMR headset. If you’ve got a little more to spend, want access to Oculus exclusives, and want the easiest to use headset, get the Quest. If money isn’t a problem, get the Index. Everything else seems like they’re simply not worth it.
the WMR shoutouts were just for you 🙂
Haha, appreciated! If WMR VR 2.0 is going to be a thing, it should launch next year. Fingers crossed.
It’s a great alternative too. Myself, and I’m sure many others, are wary of owning something effectively made by Facebook. And Steam/HTC only seem concerned with the high end segment (in an already niche market).
