If nothing else, these talented people have shown me that when my daughter is old enough, we’ll be looking for any level of maker class in school for her. Hopefully she’ll take to it willingly. I hope I never push her into something to live vicariously through her. But boy, seeing the encouragement and freedom these kids are being given by their educators and, to a large extent, mentors really makes me excited for my daughter’s future.
It is so nice to see young people working with their hands, getting dirty, but making what they thought up. Solving problems one step at a time. None of the students said they cannot do this by themselves or anything like that. They all looked like having fun solving problems on their own. It is nice to know that there are teachers, parents and schools that are willing to help students make things and be happy that way. Yes, technologies are great but nothing beats using your own hands and readily available materials and tools to make things.
