  1. Will, – those big pipes by Grapevine are the California aqueduct, pumping all that sweet Nor Cal water up over the mountains and down to us CHUDs in the south.

  2. The Google Chromecast Audio is a Sonos killer!

It’s way a bigger deal than the updated video Chromecast.

Google Play Music is the sleeper best streaming service. Even free, you get to cloud upload 50k songs from your personal music library and stream anywhere. The $10 month optional paid service is the same as all the other Spotify, Rdio, services.

Why would you buy a $350 Sonos bridge to connect to your home stereo when you can pay 1/10 of the price. Play Music and all the other myriad Chromecast supported services eclipse the Sonos offerings and the apps are way better than the clunky Sonos apps.

Meanwhile , get your own speaker and use 3.5mm to RCA to add Sonos like service to any room.

Chromecast Audio has the Sonos guys polishing resumes.

  3. The problem with positional tracking using IMUs is you get up to approx 14% of drift. Which is significant.

However, once the geometry of the user sitting in a chair is known, this positional information can fine tuned in software with a bit of math. The base of the users spine forming the point of a triangle and the upright position, head forward and upright (a bore-sight reference) becomes a second point of reference for a Kalman filter. Kalman filters have long been used in electronic flight control systems such as that in the F16 to iron out ‘noise’.

I’ve made simulated aircraft with head mounted display systems for desktops so this is kind of my bag. Everything needed to improve the accuracy of Google Cardboard is between the chair and the keyboard.

  4. The Google Chromecast Audio is very enticing for me. I have a separate vintage (1970’s era) stereo system, that is based around my turntable. This would allow me to play music (using Google Music) to the system without having to leave my phone or tablet plugged in. This is a great solution if I don’t want to be flipping records non-stop or don’t have the album on vinyl.

  5. The title of this week’s show is “Video Oops”. Will didn’t turn on the video until 45 minutes into the show. No video this week.

  6. Im not sure about if the model x’s third row seats are permanent, however all the articles i have read have said the storage space is substantial even with the third row.

  7. I commented before that Apple wants to make touch ID as fast as possible to take away lock screen notifications so you buy a watch, what aren’t you getting from your watch notifications?

  8. Your theory seems a little far fetched, don’t you think? I don’t white list much to notify me on my wrist, so I check my phone lock screen from time to time to get a digest of what I’ve missed. I’ll just have to learn to use the power button instead of home, like Norm suggested.

  9. I thought you could still get push on iOS if you had a paid Google Apps accounts (which I would think you have for your tested.com e-mail account) and set it up as an Exchange e-mail in iOS. This might have changed but it was the case when I setup Google Apps e-mail for a friend’s business.

  10. I was joking, but seriously interested in the usage. I hadn’t realized that the implementation of turning a watch notification off means it never reaches the watch at all vs “demoting” it to a silent B-list that you can check at your leisure.

  11. I ordered one just for that reason. Also have a 70s reciever and turntable. Looked åt the rocki before, but thought the price was a little bit high.

I have the Nexus 5 and was holding out to see what the new Nexus 5 was like. But now I ordered a xperia Z5 instead. I don’t like the design. Much more clunkier in a way. Feels more like the new LG V10 is the “successor” to the old n5 minus the gimicky second screen

Looking forward to try the new xperia. Apparently the camera got the top score at dx0mark. Is Sony phones available in the states btw?

  12. I’m going to hook chromecast audio up to my reciever and when we are having a party anyone will be able to cast to it. Also the built in streaming apps on the receiver aren’t all that great so this will be a much nicer user experience.

  13. as a fellow slack user, the slack notifications that are recorded in to the podcast have me hunting for an alert in my own slack!
