Designing a Book Nook Laser-Cut Kit!

Jen shares her latest project: a laser-cut book nook template and kit that allows you to build a miniature diorama to live on your bookshelf. We’re inspired by the creativity we’ve seen in book nook designs, and this template allows you to laser cut and assemble your own, with room for lighting and other electronics. Jen walks us through her many prototypes and the design considerations that got her to this lovely kit! Find Jen’s designs and kits here!

  1. Brilliant. I can see a TARDIS, a Parisienne alleyway, a walking track through a Miyazaki landscape, or just a front hall to a house might be amongst the many cool ideas.

  2. Suggestion: Instead of a battery pack, find a female mini or micro-USB breakout and use it as a source of 5V for your LEDs. As long as it pulls less than .5A, it will work with any USB power supply (and who doesn’t have a bunch of those around?). If you need way more power, there’s cheap usb-c power-negotiating boards (<$2.50ea) that will let you pull up to 100W :)

  3. Amazing, I was only halfway through the video when I called the local library and asked the Director to watch this and see if my students could do something along these lines for a student project. I will keep you updated.

  4. I was never a C.S. Lewis fan, but part of me wants to see if you could stick a pane of glass in there at about the halfway point and get a low-powered fan to puff some fumed silica around to make it look like it was actually snowing.
