Adam Savage Incognito at Comic-Con 2014: Mercury Spacesuit

For Adam’s second Incognito walk through Comic-Con (which was actually done before the Alien spacesuit), Adam donned his Mercury program spacesuit replica and explored the convention hall. His use of a polarized helmet visor shielded his identity, but fans still managed to pick him out in the cosplay crowd!

  1. That was great!

Norm, Will, and Joey, thanks for filming Adam in his Mercury Spacesuit as he walked the main floor at Comic-Con..

  2. Great stuff, you guys!

Also great seeing Adam without his glasses on. Kinda weird, but great! I can tell from his expression that he has lots of fun going out in costume.

Say, (or is it ?), whoever follows Tested may recognize you, Will and Joey. If you’re walking around the con with somebody with an impeccable costume like Adam’s… Wouldn’t you guys be blowing his cover?

My suggestion: Next year, everybody goes to Comic-Con incognito!

  3. At least they stayed a few yards behind this year and filmed from a distance, previous years they were a lot closer.

I second the motion! , and = x3 the fun! (x4 if Joey joins in). That would be awesome!

  5. I’m helping someone build a Gru (from Dispicable Me) space suit. Any chance you could post some details of the fan box Adam carries? Gru has a backpack that I would like to put a fan in.

  6. Love it! First of all, OG space nerd here since…elementary school I guess. Insanely jealous of this suit. I think I’m the only one on here that doesn’t really get super excited about costume stuff, but this is great. Top notch job by Adam and the lucky shop contracted to sew this thing up.

Also, I feel bad being this guy, but remember that the NASA worm logo wasn’t used until 1975, so that added label on the air conditioner is a bit out of place.

  7. I am confused about Adam’s glasses. He mentioned that without reading glasses he couldn’t see how nice the details were in this video but often on builds he lifts his glasses off to look at things very close. Way closer than my aging eyes can see in focus.

  8. I think pretty soon Will, Norm, and Joey will need to go incognito too–it’s too easy to spot them and find Adam! Need to find a good costume that integrates a big camera for Joey.

  9. I really like this site you always have a great video or story, thank you. Maybe you could put some motorcycle headphones in the space helmet and run a mic to outside so you can hear better.

  10. He must have had contacts in, which must be for distance vision. Depending on your vision, this will keep you from focusing up close. So in order to see up close, he needs either (a) uncorrected vision with no glasses or contacts at all, or (b) contacts for distance vision plus glasses for near-point vision to cancel out the contacts.

  11. I noticed that Adam’s badge does not have his real name on it (this would be another give a way of course). But do clebs like Adam get Con assigned code names or is he just borrowing someone elese’s badge?

  12. Loved the Mercury spacesuit at ComicCon! Well done. You know, you can wear the Apollo spacesuit and claim to be a Dr. Who Cosplay (Dr. River Song). Do you have the lights on the gloves? The two item I remember on the Merc. spacesuites was the convex mirror on the chest and the fingertip lights.

  13. i love that case he’s carrying. That sort of utilitarian design of things is great. I wonder how those holes were made. a big punch or a bunch of individual punches? hmm. Something i’ll have to think about if i want to replicate it and have it come out clean and even.

  14. seems like it’s just a computer fan powered by an RC battery with a hose going from the fan to the helmet.
