Show and Tell: Game Frame 2.0 Pixel Art Display

Game Frame is a pixel art display our very own Jeremy Williams made to show off 8-bit art and animations–a passion project that helped him learn arduino programming, product design, and manufacturing. We check out some of the newest Game Frame’s features, including an optional Wi-Fi add-on to make it a connected device. (Find out more about the Game Frame here and use the code “8bit” for $20 off!)

  1. Wow, thanks for the support, guys!

You guessed it, I found a terrific partner to handle assembly & fulfillment near Portland, OR. That leaves me free to focus on support and development, which I much prefer.

  2. Great job, Jeremy. Super cool that you just picked everything up as and when you needed to learn it to develop this. Looks like a really nicely polished end product.

  3. Ok convinced, that is now a need to have object. Will enjoy this tremendously. Need a few more for Christmas.

  4. I love hearing someone talk about something that they obviously care very deeply about. Jeremy, it was great to hear you say that you’re proud of this! Absolutely should be.

I liked your idea of integrating it into an environment to provide alerts through IFTTT. I think there may be a game frame in our company’s future for our warehouse! Much more fun than just telling the pickers that orders are in!

  5. Was thinking this was not going to be much use to me, then you said about the wifi and showed many actual use cases that I would like. Will order when I see that wifi board change from coming soon to being available.

  6. Just placed my order, I was one of the many who watched one running on a shelf during the lego builds. Can’t wait to check it out.

  7. Can’t wait to get the adapter, I was just thinking about adding a wifi module, your solution is better than I’d have managed.

  8. Hi Jeremy! Awesome to finally see it available for purchase! I live in Sweden and would really like the Wi-Fi adapter but also want to avoid paying twice for shipping ($51 to Sweden, ouch…). How can I place an order but have you hold it until a Wi-Fi adapter becomes available?

    Thanks!

  9. I have plenty of Game Frames, so it’s probably best to just wait until the Wi-Fi adapter is ready and then place an order. I’ll only have about 50 adapters at first though because 1) I want to make sure the firmware is stable, and 2) Particle is short on supplies due to an earthquake in Taiwan. In any case, more will be available later this year and I’ll also probably let you order a raw PCB for people who can source their own Photon.

Thanks for the kind words everybody! If anyone has ideas for new Wi-Fi features, I’d love to hear them.

  10. Thanks for the fast reply! I’ve put myself on the waitlist for the adapter and will wait with placing the order.

Regarding Wi-Fi features: having it display the weather forecast at certain times, like when you normally wold get up, would be sweet.

  11. Have and still run a V1 on my desk here, all the time. The new one looks so much more configurable and interactive, so just ordered one. Can’t wait.

    Thanks *again* Jeremy!
