Simone Giertz’s Coat Hanger for Coat Hangers

Simone walks us through an idea she’s had for a while to improve her new apartment: making a giant coat hanger to hang all of her other coat hangers. Building this coat hanger-coat hanger is also the perfect excuse for Simone to visit Shaper and test their Origin handheld CNC for this project.

  1. That works great for open storage like that but I wonder how it fits in a closet? The limited depth could be a problem…

Also what happens when it gets off balance? Say you wear 3 things from one end… It would tilt and maybe even unhook from the closet rod.

    Inquiring minds must know?

  2. If the notch for each clothes hanger is deep enough (or if each notch is shaped as an inverted T), I think that each clothes hanger will not fall out. Minimizing the distance between the ceiling and pole for the big hanger will stop the big hanger from turning a full 90 degrees. The pole for the large hanger can be replaced with chains and a hook as well.

For disassembling and moving, it is good that you do not need wood glue.

Simone, nice addition for adapting to the space of your place.

  3. the cnc is interesting going to have to look into it more.

Also glad Simone is doing more than just “crappy robots”

  4. She shown a bit of her place on her own channel, it is a badass looking space. Then again, her house in Sweden is a boat. So her standards are high :p

  5. Check the work bench, super strong and functional. Get the plans from Paulk.com. I have made two and cant praise them enough.
