Simone’s TED Talk: Why You Should Make Useless Things
Simone’s TED talk is online! “In this joyful, heartfelt talk featuring demos of her wonderfully wacky creations, Simone Giertz shares her craft: making useless robots. Her inventions — designed to chop vegetables, cut hair, apply lipstick and more — rarely (if ever) succeed, and that’s the point.”

A very inspiring talk. Well done Simone.
Seconded. Nicely done.
The artistry of the public performance. It is a beautiful thing. Thank you Simone for granting us the wish of ‘what if?’
Excellent talk, Simone 🙂
Classic Simone. Insightful, human, personal, inspiring, and deeply, deeply silly.
Bravo.
This was wonderful, great job Simone!
“Maybe a toothbrush helmet isn’t the answer, but at least you’re asking the question.” reminds me a little bit of something I said today to a peer at work during their interview to join our team. She expressed that she wasn’t particularly tech savvy (we are a support team which can get quite technical). Having worked with her in the past I already knew that was something she sometimes stressed about but I also knew it wouldn’t hold her back on our team. “We can teach you the tools and the processes, that’s no problem. It’s how your mind works that is important.” She may come up with her own toothbrush helmet and that’s fantastic!
But she did not get to say ‘Queen of Shitty Robots’. Other than that, I loved the talk.
