As a life-long hearing aid wearer, it felt good that you talked about them. This industry definitely needs more innovation and competition so they are more affordable (mine cost $6000 for a pair).
Are there any other differences between the standard AO Ops glasses and these aside from the Serial Numbers?
Quality of life improvements are one of those things one can’t put a price tag on. People happily go into debt for a TV upgrade or an extra car they don’t need, so to radically improve one’s hearing at that cost is a steal.
If you think like that then I’m starting a hearing aid company tomorrow. 🙂 Ofcourse they don’t cost 7000 to make, they also don’t cost 7000 with all extra R&D costs put into it. When I worked in science I was apalled by devices that, when opened up, contained parts not more expensive then maybe 20 bucks, but having bought it for 1000. Profit is fine, but to a certain extend ofcourse.
For the same cost I could buy about seven iPhones
For the amount of stuff you are getting it is a pisstake
But I will admit as someone who has not got hearing loss I am slightly jealous of Adam.
He has an off button for the more annoying parts of the world. imagine being able to go to a supermarket and not have to hear the annoying people

Thank you so much for talking about your hearing aids, and for calling out the criminal cost of these devices. No one should be ashamed to wear hearing aids. Look at it as an upgrade or a biohack. We are augmented ;).
I never knew Adam wore hearing aids. I’ve been putting off getting some good ones for a long time now. Watching this video has convinced me to go take a look at it again. Does Adam also suffer from Tinnitus I wonder?
I’m 46 and just got my first hearing aid. I know your shock at the cost of them. Luckily, my insurance covered a majority of it, but so far, I have noticed a difference. I joke that it makes me an old man, but I really don’t care if people know I have one or not. It’s no different to me than if someone has glasses or anything to make their life better.
