Once again, so glad that Sean is on Tested. Excellent video, guys. Also: Norm, I know you are averse to straps, but you might consider getting one of these… https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1189521-REG/peak_design_cl_2_clutch_camera_hand_strap.html
Oh yes, Sean is an EXCELLENT addition. Real nice video as well, I actually struggled a LOT with stuck filters etc in my astro-hobby and have been horrified quite a few times when it didn’t want to move. Once I even just decided it was lost and I pried the filter out, costing me 200 Dollars to replace. 🙁 But… I learned a lot, the rubber mat thing I thought of myself etc, so that’s cool to see. 🙂
And for normal photography I don’t use any filter. My lens is very expensive with great glass and I don’t want cheap glass with possible tiny optical problems to mess it up. I always use a strap, never dropped anything.
Camera (and watch) tools: https://www.micro-tools.com/
Rubber matt – my general work matt and good for filters: https://www.mcmaster.com/#1370n35/=18gvw5o
Tools are: spanners, lens filter ring vise, lens filter ring tool (rubber plugs), thread repair files
Sean is brilliant guy. Always brings valuable knowledge to Tested videos
Excellent and helpful video indeed. And Norm needs to get some starp. Next time it maybe the camera and Sean probably can’t fix that as Canon won’t give you parts.
So… if Sean used to do this for a living, one wonders why Norm wouldn’t have gone to him first instead of Adam. Obviously no offense meant, but even with Adam’s bevy of knowledge, I’d still run to someone with specific experience first if they were just as close.
Also, “obligatory get a strap comment here”. Jeez, even a small-form hand strap would suffice. I wrap something around my hand every time and am constantly dropping my camera. But since its wrapped, literally right at the camera where it doesn’t get in the way, I have never had a camera touching the ground unless I wanted it to.
Didn’t happen to be in the office that day and Adam got it done a-ok. 😉
Silicone Cookies mat is the perfect mat for this purpose I think.
