Tested Builds: Studio Scale Millennium Falcon, Part 4

Will and Norm hit a speedbump as they tackle issues 7 and 8 of the DeAgostini Millennium Falcon kit. It takes them almost an hour to get past it–darn those cockpit greeblies that keep falling out! Thanks to everyone for following along for these past few weeks of build. If you’re not a member and want to support us, please consider signing up for a Tested Premium Membership here! Everyone who signs up this month gets this year’s limited-edition poster designed by Adam!

  1. When you lose tiny pieces like that – or earrings, or lego (damn you, transparent 1×1 plates!) – use a vacuum with a nylon hose over the mouthpiece. It’ll lift anything from the carpet and it’s yours to grab 🙂

  2. Here’s a top tip when using Super Glue… wear latex gloves! If you stick your fingers together, just rip the gloves off and put on a new pair!

  3. For the love of God! Please someone go get some CA glue with a needle tip……. And Frank Ippolito….. and Adam………

  4. As Norm is maneuvering an X-acto blade near his fingertip at 37:15, I could swear that he said “I’m cutting off flesh right now” 🙂

  5. for the love of god, get a sanding stick and don’t let Norm near CA glue. No offense guys, but I cringed every time I saw Norm put glue on something, a little tiny bit goes a looooong way.

  6. Well I caved. I bought one. I use to build when I was younger and always wanted something like this. So thanks guys! Before everyone blasting on how much it is, think about what you’re getting, probably one of the best builds ever. At $17 a week, think about how many $20 bills you blow on useless stuff in a week. Now that I’ll be two or three months behind the videos I can build with the show and learn some things. Thanks Tested!

  7. A suggestion for the posts for these week-long builds: Could you put the link to the first day’s video (the one that is posted on YouTube for non-premium subscribers) in the description for the second day’s video (the one that is the first that you see in the Premium list). I don’t get to watch the videos everyday and would love to just click on the Premium link at the top menu and be able to find a link to Day One instead of having to jump to YouTube to search or scroll through a few layers of the main page. I know it’s a finicky request, but it would make watching the whole series easier. Thanks guys!

  8. Back when you guys built models with Adam, I thought to myself “Man, I’d love to see more plastic modeling on here”, but dear god… You’re slapping that $1500 model together like a 12 year old with a Revell kit from Michaels and a tube of Testors glue.

Take your time. I think you are over estimating what paint will hide.

  9. May I suggest needle point tweezers? Those are really cheap on Ebay, and will hold your little pieces much better than those big giant ones you guys are using.

And may I also some recommend using capillary CA glue tips applicators. You will then have less glue blobs.

Did anyone check that area on your tools? You will probably have found the part in the next video anyway lol!

  10. As someone who builds spru based model kits (ie gundam kits/gunpla) I cant help but notice all the minor things they got wrong. they know what they are doing but are totally inefficient about the whole process. Cant wait for them to build that RG RX-78-2. Lots o really small part.

    Best of luck guys

  11. I feel like we’re watching the beginning of the end of Will & Norm’s professional relationship. Mark my words: The D’agostini Millennium Falcon is a harbinger of the downfall of Tested.

  12. Can’t wait for my second month of parts to arrive. Btw I really dig the metal frame on this model.

  13. Again foiled by the Trans-Pacific ping of death. 🙁

Bandwidth woes be upon me in the land of Aus.

I’m glad I have quality choice now however. Win!

  14. I have no idea how tricky this would be to implement, but is it possible to get chromecast support for these premium videos?

I stream all tested content to the tv, but have to fetch laptop for everything premium. 1st world problems 😉

I can totally relate, this was exactly the question I was about to ask!

  16. I don’t remember if you guys have brought this up in any of the other videos but the CA can be used as a filler (for the cracks b/w the little pieces that should be flush) with a little bit of baking soda. Apply glue, sprinkle soda. The baking soda is an accelerant too! It sands really well and has minimal shrinkage.

  17. Yo! My modeling brothers! When applying CA to such small spaces– not even a glue tip will do. Get a small piece of something, like a scrap of styrene or a Post-It, put a dab of CA on it and use a toothpick to transfer a littler dab to the hole, surface or part. Beware tweezers! They can launch pieces better than anything– so a gentle grip with the right shaped tip is one way to avoid that.

Replace tiny, launched parts with scraps of styrene. Surely there are such around and available.

Do try Valejo paints, they are very nice and forgiving. FW transparent “acrylic artists inks” are available at “art stores” or stationers. They come in a range of colors and can mix well– they are also bottle-ready for airbrushing.

  18.   Dang your reasoning skills… I bought one too because of this post. I was on the fence thinking I’ll just watch Norm and Will build it. (Living vicariously through them) … Nope the $20 I throw away on junk got me. Lol

  19. Dont let norm glue stuff, dont let will put on stickers, its simple. Chewie will not fit in the bunk, he is the size of the pilots seat, I think if you do the math, he wont even fit on the couch.
