I have never wanted anything more in my life than I do that cabinet.
What a great week of build.
Any chance we can get Jeremy’s exact lay out/se-up for the NUC?
I too would like to see that.
Sadly Intel does pronounce this Nuc as in Nuckles, not Nuke, Nuke is sooooo much better.
I like the idea of adding a port that allows you to plug in a second arcade controller in a separate box.
Oh crap… I’m getting ideas. Oh well, they’ll be added to the list under the ‘when we move into a house’ section, just under the virtual pinball machine. Actually, using the port to plug in a connector could allow for one machine to be both. Hmmm.
Great build guys! Builds are my favorite thing on this site.
I really want to get one of these of my own. Maybe the acrylic one, seeing all of the components inside would be cool.
This has really kicked off an interest in DIY electronics.
Nice week of build, guys. Congrats!
Back in 2010 I built my own full sized MAME cabinet. It was a great experience . When I was done, I put up some pics, a brief write-up along with my parts list and the plans I made for the cabinet. I figure it might be of interest to the forum: http://lxicon.com/mame
Awesome week of build. My father won the original Atari 2600 in the school raffle one year when I was little. Otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to afford it. Ended up with a decent collection of games, mostly due to birthday/christmas presents. One was PacMan. I had that thing down to a fine art. I once played PacMan for 6 hours straight on the first man. Only reason I stopped was I was hungry and we had my nieces over and they wanted to play something. I still can’t stand playing PacMan (local comic store has a Mame cabinet), as I get bored fairly quickly. lol
But now, I want a full sized cabinet. So I might have to check out your site at some time LXicon. 8]
Jeez, now I’m going to have to build myself an arcade cabinet Thanks a lot :/
#Squee 😀
That thing is the best 😀
I saw in a quick flash that Dragon’s Lair was in there, I wish we could have watch them try it.
I never was able to pass more than a few screens shots, that game was very hard.
Dragon’s Lair requires a different emulator, Daphne, I believe is the name. The ROM that they showed in this build needs the timecode from the laserdisc player to work. Daphne takes video files and plays them instead of the laserdisc, and feeds the ROM the timecode inputs it’s expecting.
And yes, it’s still just as challenging as the original.

I used a Intel NUC D54250WYK1 Intel 4th Gen Core i5-4250U NUC along with the internal WiFi/Bluetooth module and one of those tiny PCIe mSATA SSD drives that goes inside (240GB). And 8GB RAM. I bought the NUC awhile back to prepare for this, so I’m sure there are newer ones that would be even faster.
I recently added some bluetooth SNES style controllers for other players called the SNES30.
Thanks ! Can you explain how you intergrated the NUC and the Mini Pac (iPac) into the cabinet instead of the Pi? I really like the Maximus Arcade software. Im not a hugely technical guy but can follow directions fairly well.
That’s easy — the Mini Pac just looks like a USB keyboard to the computer. You connect the arcade buttons to the Mini Pack terminals and a USB cable to the NUC. Then you configure all of the emulators to look for your appropriate keyboard strokes (and mouse input in the case of the spinner).
This was an awesome build. Watched it as it was released. Someone buy me one? lol
Reason I’m back here posting, is that this came up on random play a few days ago while I was at home listening to music. This this should be like a default track when you turn the cabinet on. 8]

Dammit. How do we post videos? I know it can be done, but how?
Thanks Jeremy.
