  1. Joey was asking why water decals are a thing. I’ve been building more model kits lately (watching so many Tested build videos got me inspired) and I’ve been using a fair amount of water decals lately. I think they are common, particularly in models, because they are much easier to place precisely. Once you get the hang of them of course. And if your position is a little off, you can still slide them around before it dries. Unlike a sticker, which when it is placed is, well, stuck and much harder to re-position.

  2. I see more water decals than stickers. If my ten year old can figure it out then they shouldn’t have a problem.

I have one of these half built on my desk at home. Can’t seem to find the time to finish it.

We build small ones with our Cubs/Scouts every year.

And I always say that you can almost guarantee one launch, anything after that is a bonus.

  3. Caught these from my Mavic. My son’s first rocket launch. Sorry about the image quality – they are screen grabs from video.

    Launch

    Recovery

  4. We used to build lots of these when we were small. You can get Tie Fighters, F-14 Tomcat that the wings open when the second stage fires and even 3 stage rockets that go up who knows how high with larger engines. So much fun. I should get some for my boys and launch them off.

  5. What? Joey’s in front of the camera? And it’s not a segment about cameras or other equipment? How did you tempt him over there? Seriously, there for a long time I had no clue what he looked like because I had never seen him on the site other than as a reflection off some shiny surface in the background.

  6. Any tips for capturing this event? My son is still fairly young, but I want to be be ready to capture this event.

  7. Not really… Don’t fly directly over the launch site LOL.

I just stayed back a ways and made sure the launch pad was towards the bottom of the frame so I could capture as much of the flight as possible. It was really just dumb luck.
