After over a month of troubleshooting, Jeremy, Sean, and Norm regroup to give an update on the Tiny Tesla Coil build. Bad controller boards and blown fuses may have gotten the better of us. But not all is lost–we have some footage of the Tesla Coil working!

See my comment for part 1 🙂 Exact same thing happened to us building it. Green flash. IGBT blew, the bridge rectifier blew (which is also soldered to the board). Tempted to try a 3rd rebuild to get to the bottom of why these kits choke on themselves.
Thanks so much for this. Saved me $200. This clearly needs a redesign to better protect the circuit from itself. Is there a circuit layout one could look at to ascertain the problems?
there are smaller less expensive kits on like ebay and a bunch of youtube videos of those working so anyone who wanted a tesla coil could try one of those

Looks like you guys have to build a full sized one now to redeem yourselves.
I was tempted to offer one kit to my dad for the laughs (he built one “full size” Tesla coil, over 6ft high).
It would have been fun, but looks like I’ll have to find something else. Maybe something can still done by scaveging some of the parts ?
Wrap it up and send it back to the gang! Let *them* tell you what’s wrong with it. They can fix it, test it and send it back to you.

Replace D4, the 400V power rectifier! I had a oneTesla, the original model, and had a problem with these. It was undocumented in the manual, but when they blow, they blow closed and create a short across the 120V line.
