Fantastic interview!!!
This came at a perfect time. I have a grandson who is studying to be a high school math teacher. I sent for the book and will pass it along to him as soon as I finish it.
‘Polyidiot’ doesn’t sound too nice – maybe Poly-inquisitor or Poly-layperson ? It’s not idiocy, it’s… ignorance? unsophistication? naivete? It’s being uninformed but not uninterested. Maybe being uninformed _but_ very interested. I’m not sure there’s a single word that encompasses it. Language is hard.
Fantastic interview. Not a maths person at all, but I am incredibly fascinated by anyone who is that passionate and skilled in a field (engineering, electronics, and apparently math.) I can attest to a teacher really being that lynch pin in how successful your education in math will be. I had probably one math teacher in my entire education that I think made math worth understanding (from a young adolescent perspective) and that for sure soured my relationship with this kind of thinking as a kid. Looking forward to hopefully more interviews with Matt and future book club interviews.
Great episode (would love to see more of these), Matt is a super interesting guy.
Would it be possible to get these as a podcast too?
It’s officially listed on Amazon as “AN ADAM SAVAGE BOOK CLUB PICK” and I love that he’s got Oprah level Amazon status now.
