What’s Inside Adam Savage’s Hip Pack!
You may have seen Adam wearing a hip pack (or fanny pack) in recent build videos, and Adam shares why he carries it and exactly what’s contained within. It’s a custom pack made by Tom Sachs (based off of a Zpacks utility pack) and holds some of the things Adam would normally carry in his jacket. From fountain pens to a small work light, it’s an extra bit of everyday carry for the shop!

I found some similar things on Etsy, people should look there. Personally I have a similar need for a variety of EDC items. I like to use a vest with many pockets, kind of a utility vest but wearable in many places. And i don’t have to take it off when i get in my truck. I get mine from Duluth Trading and love them.

regarding fountain pens: now that you’re a convert, you might also want to take a look at TWSBI fountain pens. they make a value model, the eco, that’s roundabout the price tag of your lamy safari, except it’s a piston-filler. (twist knob, suck ink from bottle into pen, more ink capacity, less plastic waste, get sucked into fountain pen inks as a free bonus(?).)
things that could be right down your alley about it: TWSBI’s default pen models are demonstrators, i.e. they are made of clear plastic. you can easily see how much ink is left, or ogle the mechanism. they also are easy to take apart and put back together again for cleaning.
a step up is the TWSBI diamond. it runs ~50 USD, is a bit fancier design, and comes with exchangeable feeds. if you ever manage to get the feed clogged beyond rescue or wreck the nib, you can buy a replacement and just plop it in. also if you’d like to switch nib sizes.
