We review Dremel’s third-generation 3D printer, the Digilab 3D45. Sean runs it through its paces and goes over his likes, dislikes, and how he adapted the printer to work with a variety of filaments. Here’s why the 3D45 is a good fit for schools and maker spaces.

The proprietary filament is a serious downside/issue.

Candid and very informative review. I love the proprietary spool workaround since you can only load 0.5 Kg of filament into the 3D45. This machine is very good for the money and its build to support the educational market is excellent. I took the DREMEL EDUCATORS COURSE and I am compelled to make this my first 3d printer.
Mmm, I’ve heard from other reviewers the bed leveling had some issues (not sure what those were) and although it is possible to use your own filament, it does require drilling a hole I believe. Apart from that the menu doesn’t seem to allow advanced settings to be played around with and the print quality is the same as a Prusa or even my modded (you kind of have to with cheap ones) Ender 2. Sooo, having a hard time justifying the price. The box is great and rigid I’ll give them that. 🙂
