Adam Savage’s Bridgeport Mill Upgrades!

In the short time since Adam has received his new mill, he’s already been making custom upgrades to integrate it into his shop workflow. Here’s a tour of the upgrades installed so far, what’s in progress, and how having a mill changes the way Adam things about designing his builds.

  1. He has many drawers all over his cave. 1. He’s started to get rid of them but, obviously, that takes time. 2. He’s previously said that for people who do the same thing all the time, drawers are good. He’s devoted these drawers to milling so he can stay organized.

  2. The smaller chest of drawers is called a machinists toolbox for a reason. I will say, that’s a beautiful machine. We have a Bridgeport at work, it’s one of two manual machines that earn a place in the top-of-the-line CNC shop.

  3. Wish i could buy one, if only a small one.

Which brings me to the following question, what’s the most usefull tool when you have to choose, a lathe or a mill?

  4. Such a beautiful mill. I love all the storage and having everything needed right there at arms length. Can’t wait to see you using this to create awesome stuff.

  5. Sadly I’ve no credit crad, and so I couldn’t watch this content and my parents didn’t have to! So is there an opportunity to pay in a different way? If there is the question I’m from Germany 🙂

  6. Congrats! I’ve spent many a happy hour in front of a Bridgeport mill. Do you like the three lug handle on the vise? I’ve always used Kurt vises with the handle that pops off (and on) to get out of the way. I worry that the three spoke handle would get in the way.

  8. I’m an ex-Machinist…now Electrician. I miss the days of being able to make things on my Mill and I am even more envious of the cave, now.

  9. Thanks for suggesting those channels, I’ll check them out. I already follow and love NYCNC. Makes me feel so outgunned with my simple little x-carve!

  10. Here is a Tom Lipton Video that everybody who owns a vertical mill or is even thinking about buying one should bookmark.

If you take care of your mill, it should out live you. If you don’t you’ve just got a very heavy thing in the middle of your shop. I was just on a thread on linked in about mills and maintenance, or the lack there of created problems.

  11. Request: For premium members can you just shoot out a email when a new piece of content is published?

It’s not published to Youtube (obviously), and I dont get a alert when you produce new content. So I have to “remember” to come to tested and look for premium content.

All your other video content is shared on Youtube and I get notifications, but nothing from tested.com 🙁

    maybe a tweet, something?

    Just a request 🙂

  12. Hey staff, could you fix up the quality, add place to adjust the quality, like there is at youtube. Also would be nice to adjust volume, not just on/off button.

I’ll just stop watching these until you fix up video player on quality. Please be fast about it!

Content is and has been great, but I like to watch it in HD. 320p/480p is soo 90’s.

  13. Some great video links. I’ll add another that I’ve completely fallen in love with:

    Clickspring

Chris has been building a large brass clock for the last year and is an incredible wealth of information and technique. The production quality of his videos is better than anything I’ve ever seen. It’s really machining porn for me.

  14. Sadly I’ve no credit crad, and so I couldn’t watch this content and my parents didn’t have to! So is there a chance to pay in a different way? If there is the question I’m from Germany 🙂

Doesn’t have to be a credit card. Debit cards work just fine as well. If you’re too young to have your own card you should be able to find pre-paid ones, should, I’m aware that Germany is a bit very particular
when it comes to any forms of payment cards for some reason…

  15. depends purely on what you want to make there are ways that you can mill on a lathe and turn on a mill but if the bulk of what you want to make would be non round then mill and visa-versa. id personally say mill would be more versitile.
