Adam Savage Meets the Original Blade Runner Blaster Prop!
One of the holy grail props in movie history is Deckard’s PKD Blaster from Blade Runner. This iconic pistol has been intensely studied by replica prop builders, including Adam Savage. Adam finally meets the real hero prop–in the collection of Dan Lanigan–and bring his own storied replica to compare with the original!

Dammit!… He got the vidphone?!? That was the one item in the last catalogue that I really wanted!
There should be a 2 prop bladrunner limit 😛
I’m literally right now working on a Blade Runner piece of artwork, listening to the soundtrack – and this pops up to view! Wow, what a cool thing. And what a collection!
Adam needs to help this guy put up some display cabinets! 😀
That’s a lot of famous props in one place!
Very cool!
How about, (if Dan is not adverse of course) an extended tour of his collection???? An interview where he and Adam share stores of collecting???
That was a joy to watch! And what a collection Dan has!
Great video guys 🙂
Great idea!
My first thought was “More Adam and Blade Runner? HELL YES”
second thought: “Adam needs to make a grail diary and take a ton of pics of that proton pack and replicate it”
Holy Toledo, how does that one guy have all those famous props?
Watched this from my youtube feed and had to come and login to say I really enjoyed this video!
Wow. Ultimate play date. 🙂
Apparently it is made in Austria (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steyr_Mannlicher) according to the markings. 😉
This looked like the happiest day in your prop-collecting life!
My favorite parts of this video were the small cameo by Adam’s blaster box (ie One Day Build) and the fact that Adam pulled a flashlight from his pocket to inspect the barrel (ie Every Day Carry). I think I’ve been brainwashed by Tested…
Oh and the prop collection was nice too 😛
Yeah. I saw the vidphone in London at the propstore exhibition. It looked very nice. I wanted one of the Syd Mead sketches, but they were just too pricey.
Funny thing with real props,. they are always more and nicer weathered than you’d think.
Great collection! As I saw the Sankara stone I wondered if Adam ever found his? Anyone know?
I don’t think he noticed when you switched the guns 😉
Adam looks like he would be holding a baby ;D
It was made by a gunsmith in England, with the bulk of the blaster made up of parts from two real guns, one being a Steyr Mannlicher rifle. Adam purchased the real guns to build his replica. 🙂
Look forward to see a bunch of Hi Res photos of it 🙂 its gorgeous prop.
Nice, happy for Adam and sincere thanks to Dan for letting us see it and his awesome collection. Thank you dude! 😉
for a moment I thought it was Guillermo del Toro
I think Adam Savage is excited. Amazing collection! But that vidphone is off the charts! Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies for so many reasons.
Wow….
That’s an amazing collection right there, but that’s only some of it?
I’d love the Alien Queen, proton pack and the video phone. Wonder what connections the video phone has at the back….. 😉
Adam is a very, VERY lucky chap.
That was so Cool! I agree with Show us some more stuff! and some hi-res photos please.
Money lots of money.
I loved the “giant” comment. I remember a two or three years ago at Dragon Con I was standing off to one side while a certain author was doing a signing at one of the book sellers (it was the first year that they had the dealers in the Americas Mart) when one of the people getting a signature stated that he was a big fan and the author pointed over to me (6’1″ and 380 lbs) and said that no, I was a big fan, and then went on to explain that several of his fans including myself are rather large guys. I personally found it rather amusing.
Adam tweeted recently that there have been no leads in tracking down the stolen Sankara Stone prop……
Unfortunately
I really, really don’t care about Blade Runner, but seeing Adam’s excitement was infectious.
I’d love to see more of the Pan’s Labyrinth props!
Man, I love the excitement Adam has throughout this video. I can almost smell his joy through my monitor ^_^
I spy a new EDC flashlight. Can we get a show and tell with Adam on it?
I just love how Adam doesn’t even try to hide how much he’s fanboying.
This was some classy prop porn! More “closeups” would be nice, thought.
Very nice vid and man, what a collection Dan has compiled…
Adam’s quick comment after looking at the blaster for a few seconds.(Already seeing ways to improve mine) put a smile on my face.
Am I the only one that secretly hopes that Adam some day in the near future will put out a kit of these, to sort of show what a kit should look like?
Wow, that is an awesome collection!
I’d love to see pics of both blasters as they are now and a detailed write up on how Adam could modify his to make it more accurate.
Replica builders have really made it hard to find the rifles, I had the same rifle when I used to shoot biathlon in jr leagues. I tried buying one a while back from an auction but it went to $1100 and I almost cried when the guy who bought it told me he was going to cut it in half to make a prop. The same thing with the Mauser pistols. stop buying real historic pieces to cut up, buy replicas to cut up, with English replica collecting you should be able to find them easily. i have a Blade runner pistol too but I bought a deactivated rifle to make mine (was deactivated in the 80’s or 90’s in the UK)
The real historic firearms should be preserved and their history kept in tact. I’m a member of the RPF and a builder but I collect pieces of history also and think that we are too quick to dispose of our past.
Damn fine idea – Always wish I had the resources to own items like these, but a tour would be an amazing bonus.
