Adam Savage’s Original Matrix Lightning Gun!

Adam can’t contain himself when one of the original lightning gun props from The Matrix arrives at the shop! And incredibly, this 20-year old prop is in almost perfect condition. We check out the details and test its built-in lighting effect, and learn why this piece in particular is so special. Adam is delighted and honored to be the new custodian of this epic movie prop!

  1. Isn’t the screen on the other side in the prop used in the movie? Also looks like there was a plug coming out of the side of the screen of the one used in the movie. BTW, I’m a computer/electrical engineer; if you’d like any help getting that screen working again, let me know! The Matrix is absolutely my favorite movie, and probably what inspired my very choice to go into computer and electrical engineering.

  2. I just had a corona-test done yesterday, maybe I should order one of the simple TESTED-shirts so that if (fingers crossed) it comes back negative, I can wear it to the store. :p

  3. Just a thought: Could it be that they knew the screen itself wouldn’t be shown, so instead they had it flash blue on the trigger press to provide the flickery blue electrical light to the actor’s face/body so that they didn’t need to add it in post with the lightning?

  4. Never mind! I just relooked at the images and A) they clearly used a TON of practical light for the lightning, WAY more than I remember. And also per the Matrix Fandom page, there WAS a shot somewhere of the aiming monitor:

  5. Thank you, it was in fact negative. My neighbours are probably spooked by having a pair of people show up in full PPE from head to toe and chatting to me for 20 minutes, though :p

I wish I had a photo of myself with the swab up the nose, because that thing was crazy and I don’t plan on doing it again :p

  6. yay, great news!

re the swab: i once had an ear/nose/throat specialist inspect a vein in my nose. he put a curiously long instrument right in front of my nostril, looked through its back end, and then started moving towards me until there was no room between us for that instrument. it has quite a way of making you reassess how much space is in there, doesn’t it?

  7. Where can I find images, blueprints, measurements or any info on this prop. I really would love to make my own replica.
