Episode 99 – This Is Only a Test – 01/05/2012
On this week’s episode, Norm is ready for CES, Will is waiting for Ivy Bridge, and Gary has a surprise on the way. All that, plus Matt and Wes stop by to talk Consumer Electronics Show, the latest on the new Roku stick, next-generation Wi-Fi, even more AppleTV rumors, and even more fake outtakes. Enjoy!

FakePlasticTree just commented on your Blog: “Wrap up – Moving to Blackberry”.
“I’ve been using a Curve 8900 for about a year now. As a phone I think it is fantastic, and I love the UMA feature. However, the love stops there. Blackberry’s app store is so terrible I don’t even know why they bother having one. For example, Doodle Jump for the iPhone is $0.99 (or $1.99, I forget), but the same game on the Blackberry is more than double the iPhone price. Why it costs so much more is beyond me, but the store is generally way too expensive for the apps you’re getting, and I don’t think the proprietary apps are all that good either.
My Blackberry has good reception and call quality, but I don’t even dream of using it for anything ele anymore. “

I probably haven’t tried out near as many apps as you have, so take my commentary with a grain of salt. I haven’t tried out the iPhone app store, but I can tell you that, compared to the Android Market, the BlackBerry market holds its own. I’ll admit that most of the apps are paid, and the apps themselves might not be that fantastic, but I was able to find what I need and then some within only a minute or two of opening it. I can’t say the same for the Android Market. There was no way to search by ratings, downloads, etc once you typed in the name of an app. Typing in “Shazam” in the search field was just as likely to bring up a Dave Chappelle soundboard as it was to bring up the music identification program. I think they need to fill in their catalog with better apps and more free ones, but the App World itself isn’t bad.
I have the first comment.
Will there ever be more Tested coffee cups available in the store? I want one!
Yay for Will back in the saddle! Although I did enjoy Norms hosting as we got his full attention so look forward to seeing a rotation of the MC duties every now and then. Hey would even love a Gary hosted ep. It would be sure to go off the rails! LOL
I’m going with the?.. Norm prediction, Apple will release a Thunderbolt Display style screen with a tuner, wifi and Apple TV built in. One of Steve Jobs’ last quotes in his bio “We’ve cracked the TV”.
I actually bought the Steve Jobs doll, let’s see if it actually ships.
To all the guys on this podcast. GREAT podcast! I really enjoyed this weeks episode!
I hope this is part of the new merch stuff they talked about
And congrats to Gary!
Love these. I pretty much only watch the cast now and never listen to the podcast. Sometimes it’s just open in another tab I can’t see but I like the idea of just watching the conversation more for some reason.
Pretty excited about watching the CES vancast.
Finally, a voice a reason. Yes Gary, Saints Row is the Game of the Year.
