This Is Only a Test #145 – Missing Mail – 11/1/2012
On this week’s episode, Will walks out, Norm speaks directly to camera, and Gary is a giant douche. All that, plus the latest on Windows Phone 8, more Surface thoughts, the new Google Nexus tablet and phone, Star Wars going to Disney, and the most meta Would You Rather ever. Enjoy!

Microsoft didn’t spend 20 minutes talking about Local Scout because that’s been in Windows Phone since 2010.
Since WP8 is based on Windows 8 it has support for up to 64 cores. We could see quad-core WP8 devices next year.
Dear God, Will takes a huge shit on the Surface in this one.
I’m convinced that Will has horrible motor skills and has been dipping into the apple Kool-Aid. Why do you need an app when you can go to the actual full website?!? Most of his grief with Surface was the about how he had issues with the UI. I’ve been using this tablet just as long as Will and I’ve never encounter any of the issues with crashing (what crap site has he been going to?) or random restarts (the only time it actually restarted is when it updated the core system). When in tiles mode, I use the split version of the keyboard. When in desktop mode, I use the touch cover. He basically shit on Surface because he is having more issues changing workflow. FYI the Surface is the same weight as the iPad.
I felt they were a little dismissive of the Nexus 4… that thing is $300/350 and has phone specs of the highest calibre. Lack of LTE being the obvious shortcoming, that’s a fair criticism for those who want it, but it’s certainly not prevalent outside the US and here in the UK you have to sign on to a contract to get it, pay through the nose. At least we’re not using CDMA.
Imagine a world where the phones we bought weren’t tied to a network and we were free to move to an alternative whenever we liked. That’s the world I live in, it’s nice.
Yeah, the most exciting thing about the whole Disney buy-out is the very slight chance that LucasArts titles might come out on GOG. Those old adventure LA adventure games re-released today? It would be incredible.
Though, considering the way Disney handles many of its IPs, it’s totally possible that they all get locked up in the “Disney vaults,” never to be seen again.
