I’m curious about the mentioned thing of having an image surround you as opposed to looking at it, sounds pretty key.
As for the cost I think it’s going to be as some said about HDTVs and the iPhone being expensive but becoming more mainstream later on (and cheaper in the case of HDTVs).
I wanna know how demanding it is on a PC compared to the Rift
This is a great question. On these VR units what are the system requirements going to be? Oculus has released their info, but what about the other units?
Thank you Norm for bringing us these interviews.
I wonder how much difference in price compared to oculus. Before, when oculus indicated that the price was gonna be around 350-400$ HTC said that the vive was going to be more expensive. Is this going to be in the same ballpark or above 699$?
I haven’t seen any official specs, but the HMDs seems to have pretty much the same specs except for the eronomics and lenses maybe. Before I was pretty set on getting the oculus. But with the pricetag I’m gonna wait for reviews between the two and what the content landscape looks like after official release.
No Will Smith 🙁 I was hoping for a Will cameo on the reaction part of the video. Also, I remember the enthusiasm from the showings at E3 2015, and this seem way more toned down.
Anyway, its 2016 guys and gals! We will be able to strap a head set in a few months!
Both HMDs have the same resolution. Unless the Vive have something that demands more juice than the rift I would belive they´re pretty much the same as the rift.
Oh ha-ha.
I meant to ask what will our computer requirements be for these VR units? I guess I should have been clearer, Sorry.
I was talking about the computer requirements 😉 I think it was me who could be clearer
I’m no expert on this, but if the headsets have the same resolution ( if this is correct http://www.digitaltrends.com/virtual-reality/oculus-rift-vs-htc-vive/) In theory they would demand pretty much the same horsepower from your pc which then would be a geforce GTX 970 /AMD 290, a 5-4590 and 8 gb of RAM. This is the minimum specs and I would imagine that there will be games that demand more than that in the near furure.
I’m going to wait for nvidias pascal cards (or AMD equivalent) which hopefully will be out when the HMDs are availible. They seem like a significant leap in performance to endure the wait. But then again, the grass is always greener on the other side..
Yeah, recommended / minimum spec is GTX970 / R9390, with a i5 and 8GB. A enthusiast gamer PC, basically.
Won’t be cheap. It’s the same deal. New tech, lots of R&D and manufacturing, expensive optics, expensive electronics, quality materials, plus the Vive will also bundles VR controllers.
BTW, where’s Norm at the Oculus Booth? They are kind of big news right now.
Ooh in that case the Vive sounds like it’d be better with it’s camera, room tracking, lack of nausea induction…
They should just combine the headsets into one =)
The lighthouse solution on the vive seems better than oculus tracking solution. But the oculus seem like the better headset in terms of picture quality and ergonomics. Also it seems like it’s a safer bet with oculus in regards of the eco system with periferals and games/software. But this is just speculation. We’ll have to wait and see.
That would be cool, although the vive is very good when it comes to not making you motion sick although I suspect the Oculus is there now anyway
