  1. nickb64 just commented on your Blog: “This is why I hate PCs…”.

” Where did you get this PC? Your processor is weird, I can’t find its specs anywhere. Go to My computer –> Properties –> Device Manager and see what it actually is. With the specs you’re telling us it sounds like it’s at least 3 years old. Also trying to play games on integrated graphics and have it not working = your own fault. Integrated graphics are meant to get a PC barely started up, and maybe browse the internet that’s about it.  Provide a budget so that we can know what to recommend.   You really should have done your research before buying a PC for gaming purposes; you didn’t even know your GPU was integrated. You probably also don’t even know if the processor you’re upgrading to is compatible with your mobo or not, or if it’s even better than your current one. “

I got it at Best Buy.  Specs:  6gb of RAM 1TB Processor AMD Athlon II x4 630 Processor 2.80GHz Windows 7 Home Premium  NVIDIA GeForce 9100  I don’t know very much about PCs, and I didn’t have much time to research because it was a quick thing, my computer broke down on a Saturday morning and by the end of Saturday I had a new PC, I’m an idiot, I told the guy at Best Buy I wanted to play games from around 2006 and this piece of shit can’t even run Psychonauts, it was partially his fault, the fucker should’ve known I’d be getting an HD monitor in the first place, second of all, I didn’t fucking mean play games from 2005-6 in lowest settings! He fucked me over! I should’ve gotten one with a NVIDIA GTS model GPU and AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000 processor but nope, I was too fucking stupid. “

    There’s no such thing as a 1TB processor >.>

Let me give you a tip, if you’re planning on playing games at high settings, don’t buy dodgy 3 year old computers from Best Buy and learn what basic computer specs mean.

This is why I hate PC gamers, most of you are like this. Fuck off, seriously. “

You bought a PC with zero knowledge about what you should be looking for, and then you complain about how  much of a hassle PC gaming is when your games don’t work on a 3 year old integrated GPU. It’s pretty much like you walked into a store and bought a PSP, and then you’re all surprised when Bayonetta doesn’t work on it and complain how much of a hassle console gaming is. You fuck off.  “

He already said his old PC broke so he didn’t have time to do any research and it’s not like everyone knows everything about PC hardware.  Plus the clerk at Best Buy didn’t really help. If he gets a good Graphics card his pc would be pretty damn good.   Also Emandude check if your OS is Windows 7 64 bit, I mean it should be but it’s just that if it was 32 bit it wouldn’t recognise all your 6GB of RAM. “

Those specs are not all that different than the PC in MaximumPC’s February issue, except for the Graphics card of course.

  2. EARLY Podcast :0 YAYYYYYY! My week is awesome now.

Also, Sriracha is my favorite hot sauce with Cholula Chili Garlic shortly after. I don’t care for red Tabasco, but the green jalapeno one is decent.
  3. Recording on a Wednesday? If I had known that I would have sent in my audio question… although I am sure you guys already have quite a few of those.

  4. I know exactly what they mean regarding the iOS browser. I’m partial to the Perfect Browser, which does everything I need a tablet browser to do. Check it out!

  5. I loved Norm’s comment about taking the gun off for comfort when you sit down. I carry a gun all day, and the only time I take mine out of my pocket, I’m either at home relaxing with another one within reach, or it’s in my desk at work.

Oh and for that dude with the monitors question. I use four monitors and my 6970 drives basically any game at highest settings, and does quite well. I do two 27″ apple LED displays in landscape, and two Samsung 23″ in portrait for web browsing, twitter, etc.
I’ve actually got an HD TV hooked up too, and toggle back and forth between 4 out of the 5 monitors, as that is the max the card can use.
  6. Back in 8th grade, I went on a mission to stay awake until my eyes bled (what the hell was I thinking?!). I stayed awake for 15 days with about 20 minutes of sleep a day. This was summer so I would have a friend with me everywhere keeping me awake.

On the 15th day, I was at a local park at about 8am. A small child wearing a superman shirt ran towards me, now in my delusion, I thought it was actually superman, and he wanted to get my….”badger oil?”. I jumped into a bush and tore 2 giant gashes in the side of my head about 4 inches long.
I had many hallucinations in the 2 week long experiment, but that is the one that ended it.
  7. I have plenty of days where I just get away from the internet. It’s nice and I feel more productive. Most of those day I would just play some video games (offline obviously) or watch some dvds I bought. On very special occasions I’ll sit down with a book or just write for a few hours. It’s nice to be away from the world for a while.

  8. Ooohh, the part about electric vs. manual shaving was interesting. I use an electric shaver, but like Will said, i have to do a lot of passes on the neck area around the adam’s apple to get all the hair, which often leads to nasty red spots.

I don’t really know which direction i should go. Different electric shaver, maybe a fancy one with the lotion dispenser thing? Or try wet shaving? Straight blade, safety razor or some Gilette-style business?

Yeah I had an experience like that back at university. My friend and I were flipping through the channels late one Friday and happened to catch the beginning of a The Jeffersons marathon on a three day weekend. We’d never seen the show before and our minds were blown at how well it stood up and how funny it was. We ended up buying a ton of energy drinks and staying up the entire weekend watching.

When we’d finally had enough, our friend took us out to a restaurant since there was no way we could drive at that point. When we left he had us get back in the car, he turned the engine on, we took a loop around the parking lot, and then pulled back into the same place. He then convinced us that we had not yet actually eaten, and convinced us to go back inside. I still couldn’t tell after we had been seated at the same booth, with the same (albeit confused) waitress.

We’ve never really lived that one down. I think we were up for nearly four days straight, and at that point were completely oblivious to everything going on around us. I still love The Jeffersons though.
  10. I AM SO CONFUSED!

Do I save the Tested podcast for Thursday afternoon or do I listen to it now!? Why would you do this to me? It’s tempting now, but then I won’t have anything to listen to this afternoon. So sad and confused…

  11. Suggesting a fake outtakes topic for the future: lucid dreaming. Have you ever tried it, thoughts about it, what would you do if you could do anything in a dream, etc. Would be a fascinating insight into the psyche of the Tested crew!

  12. Just unplug your ps3 from the internet, and you can use it as a blu-ray player in the no-internet contest.

  13. The “no internet” challenge is one which Norm could never win, thus making it a challenge that Norm must now undertake to prove us wrong. Take that, Chan!

  14. Definitely need an official Tested beard trimmer shootout. I’ve been looking for a new one and can’t decide.

  15. The sleep discussion was interesting to me, since I moved to the silicon valley to perform research on the neurobiology of sleep. I can answer some questions that came up in the podcast:

    1. There is such a thing as sleep debt, where you can build up an effect of not getting enough sleep a period of time. The sleep debt can be erased by sleeping more at a later date, though the exact mechanisms are still being argued. The effect is though to last two weeks, only because such studies do not go longer than two weeks.

    2. I haven’t heard about the cohort of people who only need 4 hours of sleep a day, but I do know that constant sleep deprivation has been linked with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.

    3. Most sleep drugs nowadays are developed to solve sleep-related disorders, such as insomnia and narcolepsy, and not reducing the amount of sleep a person needs.

Thanks for the podcast, it helps me get through work.

  16. Your statement that the Atomic Browser (or any third party browser) is just as fact as the Safari browser is untrue.  This is because Apple released javacscript rendering optimizations to the Safari webkit  that, if applied on other apps, would violate the access permission set forth by apple.

You can see the difference for yourself. Run the sunspider benchmark on Atomic Web and again on Safari.

Personally, I use Atomic Web constantly, so this is a real bummer for me.  Works very well on the iPhone.
  17. I think Will would do well to work on not saying “right?” after every couple of sentences (usually when he’s describing an example or situation). So many broadcasters/podcasters do it, and I think it’s really annoying. He’s not nearly as bad as some, but the more he keeps saying it, the more of a habit it may become.

  18. great episode!

the outtakes got me wondering though , a brain backup would be just that , a backup copy , and not the original thing.

if you die , your backup would be applied to a new piece of flesh , and it would probably do everything you would have done , since its has all your memories and experiences , but you would still be dead.

unless they invent some kind of “soul” trapping device, so that they can then insert you back , into a new body , along with a brain preloaded with all your memories ( guessing it would be like a memory loss , if you just put the “soul” in a fresh body )

  19.   thats why i used the ” “‘s

it would be the same thing as taking your dna and cloning you  , while you are still alive ,  then inserting all your experiences and memories into the clone .

you would not get to control the clone ( see though its eyes ) , you would still be in your body , the same thing would happen if you died and they initiated one of your backup clones , it would start living , and you would still be dead.

your relatives would probably not notice anything , as long as the clone had experiences and memories from the every last second you lived.

but for you to actually move from your old body to the new , something other than brain backup and a new piece of flesh would be needed.

    unless im forgetting something here.

  20.  I’m not sure why everyone keeps calling the original Moto Droid users “the first wave of Android adopters.” I guess that was when it became really mainstream, but there’s a lot of us out here that got the G1 right when it came out, and it sucks to see all those first phones get neglected. Google already knows whether or not people are going to get newer android phones when they renew their contract because we already did. That G2 that people thought so highly of was a hugely popular phone with those of us that started out on the G1. I’m not saying that the Droid didn’t cause Android to become the juggernaut that it is today. I’m just saying that tech sites should show some love for those of us that have stuck it out with Android from day 1.
