From Disney’s The Black Hole to Interstellar, we discuss the portrayal of Black Holes in science fiction films and the misconceptions popular media has spread about this astronomical phenomena. 1. Kip Thorne (as mentioned with Interstellar) has a good and fairly gentle book following the development of the theory of black holes titled Black Holes & Time Warps:Einstein’s Outrageous Legacy. As an introduction it starts with a story about a fictional researcher of black holes and touches on the effects of being near a black hole and traveling at a fraction of light speed.

  2. When was this recorded? It’s been over a month since we got our first actual picture of the black hole at the heart of the Messier 87 (M87) galaxy, nearly 54 million light years from Earth. And yet no mention.

  3. Makes me want to hang out with Fatima and friends with these conversations they get into. As a pretty conceptually minded person, when she spoke of gravitational lenses and some story line to include them my mind jumped at the idea. Now I will have to indulge (I have a story concept!) in some thinking on how and why they would use such a thing as defensive tech. After all, most would want to steer clear of a black hole and why are they using it?
