Podcast - This Is Only a Test

Episode 85 – On Ethical Grounds – 9/22/2011

On this week’s episode Norm expresses disdain for the new Facebook changes, Will regales the gang with tales of his childhood road trips, and Gary expresses his love of coffee. All that, plus Google+ going public, the big Netflix split, HP’s got a new CEO, Apple’s having a party, and another edition of fake outtakes. Enjoy!

  1. The summary of the podcast made me a bit morose… I have to give up Caffeine (along with other delicious items) for 8 weeks to determine a food allergy.

I’ve been drinking coffee since the 80’s and the longest I’ve gone without it was probably 72 hours, of which I was unconscious.

    This is going to suck.

  2. Just to clarify on the FB privacy in the begining. If someone sends you a friend request on facebook, the only updates they start seeing on their stream are ones you already have fully public. No different than if someone adds you to a circle on G+ and they start seeing your public material. Same content they saw when they went to your page to add you in the first place.

  3. you can skip the preroll previews on dvds and blurays by pressing stop stop play. It will by pass the menu and just play the movie.

  4. Since Norm is watching Twin Peaks, here is my protip: Once the main mystery is solved halfway through season two, skip straight to the final episode since the second half of season two is trash. Trust me, you’ll miss nothing of substance.

  5. I forgot to tell Norm when I saw him, but I’m the guy who SENT IN THE BANNER! I used to have the Freejack banner hanging in my dorm room.

I’m the reason that you get to stare into the beautiful eyes of Emilo Estevez while you work.

  6. I think you guys are a bit off on the age of people who don’t know about video stores and VHS rentals. I know most of my friends remember the dark days of VHS rentals from places like Blockbuster. I’m 18, and I think that’s about the age where the cutoff is. My sister, who’s only 3 years younger, doesn’t really remember those days. I think 15-16 is about the cutoff for people who remember renting DVDs.

  7. Yeah, I’m 24 and remember renting video tapes for at least a decent amount of my life. I bought Jurassic Park with my mom and the grocery store one day and watched it. I must have been pretty old, because my mom wouldn’t have let me see a PG-13 movie until I was at least 10 or so. So that would have been around 1997.

Anyway. I just found out no one will be in town that I know this weekend, so that frees me up for the Voyager marathon all Sunday. Hoo-ah!

  8. Do not let Mr. Smith make that horrible mistake of cutting his beard off. Instead let us start at “SAVE THE BEARD” fundraiser.

  9. Apple rumours are not news! Wish big sections of the show weren’t devoted to them, at least not if they’re the only company whose rumours get talked about. Other than that, great show!

  10. I really enjoyed this episode and it’s slowly starting to appear apparent This Is Only a Test is the best podcast of Whiskey Media, great mix of serious tech discussion with some great tangents.

But it’d be really good if you guys could archive the stream for members at least… cut it up into parts that premium members could listen to, win for charity win for whiskey media.

  11. Nespresso is not that bad if you want just espresso like shots or some cappucino.

Single origin long blacks are still much preferred as far as taste goes but in a rush nespresso does its job while tasting reasonable.
