I want to point out to users that the LTE Windows Phones coming are only on AT&T, NOT Verizon. An honest mistake though, since Verizon are the only ones pushing LTE phones right now.

Oh? Sorry about that then. Chat was lively this week so half of my attention was on that for the whole show.

Props for mentioning Ralph Steinman on the podcast. His winning of the Nobel Prize in medicine was a fairly big deal to the scientific community up here in Canada, and it was really unfortunate that he didn’t survive long enough to receive it in person.
When I used to get presents from Santa all the small stuff in the stockings were wrapped and the big present I got was always unwrapped.
To the comments about the Vita failing and the WiiU not making as big as a splash I don’t think it’s that easy to predict gaming hardware in the first week out or not even finalized yet. If you look at this year we’ve gone from 3DS being “doomed” to it having some great sales this holiday season, Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario Land 3D selling 4 million + each. I’m not saying smart phones and other things have diminished dedicated handhelds, it’s just too early to tell at this point. Now a days I think it takes at least a year to see where a console is going. Hell if you would have told me when the 360 launched that 2011 was going to see it’s highest sales I would have called you crazy but here we are.
For the suspecting Santa thing, I didn’t do it with Santa, but I did test my parents with the Tooth fairy. I had a tooth come out and I put it under my pillow without telling anyone and low and behold the next morning, the tooth was still there. Got em.
I’m hoping someone in the tech/gaming press will admit that the 3DS’ comeback has demonstrated that they were wrong about the dedicated handheld market having “moved on”. Not that smartphones aren’t a huge factor in the portable gaming space now but the 3DS’ success (after getting cut to the price it should have launched at) have proven there is still a dedicated handheld market. The enthusiast press is very good about making what they consider solid predictions and just hoping no one notices when they’re wrong, kind of like analysts.
Also, it would be nice if every tech related topic didn’t somehow get twisted back into comparisons with Apple and how they’re always clearly superior. This is what TWiT became, I’d hate to see it become the standard trend on This Is Only A Test as well. The discussion of how well the Kindle Fire sold is framed in such a way that it’s considered a failure if it doesn’t outsell the iPad (which I doubt it did). Something can be successful without being #1 and just because it doesn’t outsell an Apple product doesn’t mean it bombed. And I say this as someone who may buy an iPad this year. Just providing feedback.
