I know, I was just saying that even if the update is not significant, the OP would still be wise to wait if only because he’ll be able to see what the next update is while paying a bit less.

Edit: Big reason my family’s avoided smartphones is the data plan costs. The current phone plans we’re on are only $20-$25 a month; the data plans were along the lines of $50-$80, and considering I never use my phone, it just doesn’t make sense to spend that much.
cant wait to hear about project glass
woot
It doesn’t download onto my iphone 3g via itunes 🙁 I get a “cannot be played on this iphone” message.
edit: n/m it worked on the second try. Weird!
im always surprised at how fast it’s posted, I mean they go out to lunch after and it’s ready to go before dinner time, good job.
I thought you guys would be posting a download link in the descriptions of podcasts?
Also, why the hell aren’t you just labeling the podcast as “Containing explicit language”? That’s the obvious short term solution to stop parents from whining about some words.
Well, they don’t usually have much editing to do to the podcast. They like to ‘keep it real’ and forgo most of the post processing that’s around most podcasts in the wild
live saver.
Has anyone considered the effects on the planet of removing enough mass to alter the course of an planet killing asteroid? because it would need to be one hell of a chunk of the planet then it would take a shit tonne of propulsion to lift it off the planet. Then if everything works out would you return the chunk of back to the planet or would you let it become the first man made interplanetary weapon?
I think it’s kind of a bummer that Neil deGasse has his weak article talked about while Phil Plait from Bad Astronomy did a TED talk months ago talking about exactly what Tyson wrote up. The only difference is that Phil’s is better.

Liking the podcast so far, I’ve been listening for over a year or two now but one thing that always gets me is that you three always seem ‘reactionary’, like you pick up in critique on something when its not really a critique or it just seems like a minority opinion.
I am being very vague but IDK how else to word it, like, in the beginning, talking about swearing. You’ve guys talked about that enough times by now, we get it.
I’m pretty sure there’s PDF -> Fax Number programs around. I remember looking for one, I don’t remember if I actually used it though. As for receiving facsimiles, I guess you’re boned.
I’m a Windows user and currently I’m using Synctoy (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=15155) for backing up. Works great.
Norm: “We should have list of time travel destination, in case we ever get time travel.”
I actually started such a list several years ago! Thanks for reminding me. It needs work though, because currently everything on there are things like “Burning Man, when it was good in the 90s” and “register good domain names before everyone else”.
I always recommend people do a minimum of two backups – three ideally. One external HDD and one offsite (or cloud) for critical stuff. Ideally you’d have two external HDDs (because remember HDDs do die and can be dropped) and one offsite.
Not everybody can afford a Server with RAID1 but that’s also a good idea.
I should clarify (having listened further), a Server with RAID1 instead of having an external HDD (or 2 ) NOT a RAID1 inside your desktop. You’re using it as your backup solution, its very accessible from other computers, and redundancy is key.
I agree 100% about the data plan fee. Every single one of my friends has an Iphone, while I still have a flip-phone. There’s absolutely no way that I’m getting a smart phone until at least that Data plan comes down to $15 a month. $30 a month is ridiculous.
The talk about Instagram here is a great time capsule. You guys note that it makes basically no money, it has no revenue stream. Here we are a few days later, and their business plan finally makes sense. A ONE BILLION DOLLAR cashout.
I had a friend who was really into homeopathy. I heard a lot of things from her.
Norm’s tidbit on the matter was just as foolish. Those Armstrong myths are a sore point.
I’d say that zune was better than the iPod but whatever, MS went into a battle that they had no chance of winning. Best chance scenario was surviving and possibly coming out as some barely remembered, but loved by some hero.
Does anyone remember the other iPad game Norm mentioned along with “Waking Mars” a couple podcasts ago? Tried finding the podcast with no luck.
Thanks for responding, much respect. In terms of monetizing, I was just talking about about Instagram’s strategy. Which apparently was: don’t bother with ads or subscriptions, lose money for a couple years, and build up something so insanely popular that an established tech company will drive an oil tanker full of money up to your door.
I don’t think anybody doubts that Facebook has plans to make a zillion dollars or so on Instagram. For instance, analyzing photo trends from day-to-day and selling the data to marketers. Based on what shows up in the “popular” feed, we can all expect future ads to revolve around kittens and sexy ladies taking pictures of themselves in the mirror.
