So sad. I will always miss Ryan Davis.
No video? Or is Youtube still digesting it?
So young 🙁
Very sad.
Ryan will live on in our hearts and minds, he had a very positive impact on my life, I will not forget that. Love you forever Papa bear.
Might be an idea not to. Will and Norm may be getting a little choked up at points which may not show up on voice vs video.
I was born in 79!!! Im still in shock. :*-(
Isn’t showing up on Downcast yet 🙁
Edit: Nevermind, it showed up when I let it do it’s thing. So sad to hear about Ryan. I stayed cool listening to the Bombcast right until the end when Vinny started to lose it. I wasn’t really a frequent visitor of Giant Bomb but I loved the content they put out. I’ll miss hearing “Hey everybody it’s Tuuuuuuuuuesday” from here on out.
As or pillows, check out latex pillows sometime. I switched several years ago and they are amazing. They are not all created equal though, so check out many different brands and models. Also, firmness varies between models, so pay attention to that. I will honestly never switch back to a traditional pillow. I’ve never liked down pillows, too soft for me.
I hope you’re out there somewhere having fun, Ryan.
I’m sure Ryan would have called Will out on his incorrect pronunciation of Calibre.
IMO down pillows might as well not be there, no support at all. Unless they are huge and engulf your entire head into a ball of heat.
I like the tempur-style pillows, my neck sure does. All a matter of habit I suppose. 🙂
I think there was a good classic Will Smith Poor Word Choice Oh Ho somewhere in this podcast. Did someone make a note of what it was? I definitely laughed.
“I thought Ryan really fucking hated me” I guffawed at this because the kind of heat Ryan put on Will and Norm during the Happy Hour was hilarious but it was obvious that it wasn’t ever malicious. Maybe not so obvious if you’re directly receiving it though -_-;;
I’m currently on Verizon and it still blows my mind that I can’t do voice and data at the same time. Maybe it’s time to swap back to AT&T. As far as coverage and service, they’ve been the best that I’ve used though I think they’re a bit pricier.
Every time I think about his passing the only thought I can really get out is “How did this happen?” And I don’t mean the cause of death. I’m just baffled at how this could be real. Ryan was something of an idol to me and along with his friends at Whiskey, he got me through a lot of shitty, shitty times by giving me something to laugh and smile at and to look forward to. I probably owe the guy my life, and the concept of him not being around to host and generally kick ass at doing things is so foreign to me that I’m still in denial nearly a week after receiving the news.
Ryan, I only met you a handful of times, but I hope you know that there are many people like me who were profoundly impacted by you. Either by your professional aptitude and integrity or your ability to spread joy or your cutting honesty. You will be greatly missed.
I’ll try to sneak a gong into heaven for you to keep you entertained if I can.
Really? You’re worried about getting Van Halen wrong but fail to credit House of Pain for Jump Around? For shame. Fooooor shame.
Will: Apple [hasn’t figured out] that people don’t care about DRM if it’s better than the analog good.
What.
That was the entire premise of iTunes, which changed the music industry. Their entire business model is “join us in the walled garden, it’s so good in here.” Of course they don’t extend their software to competitors, they want you to buy their hardware. Google isn’t in that business.
I loved the Whiskey Media Happy Hour and your interactions with Ryan. He really made the whole show glue together, and you guys had the funniest segments with all your food and penguin shenanigans.
Glad you guys talked about him, he had a profound impact on me and Tested would surely have been very different if not for him as well.
RIP Ryan.
I also thought of Jump by Van Halen first, so you are not alone Will.
If it’s any consolation , I’m a millenial and my mind went to ‘Jump’ and I hadn’t even considered ‘Jump Around’.
I guess I’m a millennial (born after 1980), and my first thought was Van Halen, I never heard of the other song. I just switched to T-Mobile from Sprint a few weeks ago. I have been pretty happy with the service so far, I live in a small city and I actually have LTE here, Sprint hadn’t set up their LTE here yet. My parents are also on my plan, T-Mobile has adequate service there (no AT&T, you have to be in the middle of the street to get service, I’m not kidding).
We are all on the 500 mb plan. Its fine so far, I was worried it wasn’t enough but I’m on WiFi most of the time and I can make WiFi calling when I’m in doors and service isn’t great. I’m going to miss not having to worry about how much data is use but their internet is fucking fast compared to Sprint.
He said in he thought Ryan hated him in the beginning.
Worth noting that I have back/neck issues, so the stiffer/harder the pillow the better in my case.
Hey, you don’t have to buy stuff to get the cards for the steam sale, fyi *rolls eyes at SOMEONE always just saying stuff without substantiating anything whatsoever*
Why do these guys hate on millennials? I know there are stereotypes but they make it sound like they have active contempt for anyone under the age of 30.
I’m currently celebrating Ryan’s life in the way he liked to: with a glass of bourbon and a single piece of ice. This stuff is fucking terrible, but it sure gets you drunk.
The natural looking faded burgundy of Will’s hair/beard compared to the bright color-in-a-box orange of his first Glass headset created this weird contrast that just didn’t look right. In lieu of purple, blue would be the best available option for your second apparatus. Combine that with a black shirt that has green graphics and you’ll be what the kids call “peacocking.”
The “do a barrel roll” Frog’s name was Slippy. Instead it sounded like Will called our proud crimson brother, Wes, “Pippy,” which is of course is considered a defamatory epithet for us gingered individuals. As the saying goes, “Pippin’ ain’t easy. Except when you’re a white male, in which case you’ve had enough fun.” I’m not sure how I feel about that saying.
Okay, last subject ginger related. I tried a 1.5 inch memory foam mattress cover a couple years ago and it made me way too hot to lie on. I was curious how hot an entire memory foam mattress would make Will feel since San Francisco is generally colder than the panhandle of Texas is, and we both possess the gene that causes pale freckled skin and red hair. The reasons I suspect being a ginger has an impact on thermal tolerance include the episode of Mythbusters where they tested pain tolerance of gingers with ice water, as well as my time working in an office supply store with a tall thin lady whose skin produces much more melanin than mine (read: of African descent), who insisted turning up the thermostat way high at all times. Seems like the mattress made by Swedish people probably works better in their region of the world, where the nights are extremely long and colder than most of the rest of the planet. You’d probably want something to hold as much body heat as you could produce there.
So I rolled up my memory foam mattress cover and shoved it into a body pillow case to sit on, and now I have a super comfortable office chair in front of my computer. Combined with a mesh back, this seems like the best use of memory foam in more temperate parts of the world.
edit: The combined Questions and What We’ve Been Testing themes blended exceptionally well, as Norm noted. In fact I think it might be time to merge the two to be the official Questions theme and find a new What We’ve Been Testing Theme. It’s a new era After Davis, and as far as I’m concerned, this is the year 0 AD. Perhaps in the next episode you could ask users to submit new themes for it.
edit2: Regarding pillows; if they sold an extra stuffed Sobakawa pillow, that would be the best thing a human could rest his/her head on. I have a worn to shit Sobakawa Cloud pillow and it’s both the best and worst pillow I’ve ever owned. Down pillows feel rigid enough to keep their shape, but they offer no support. Sobakawas are the exact opposite. If there was some sort of functional hybrid, I’d be all over it.
Those drones will only be used for peaceful purposes? Really? Was I missing some information about why they wouldn’t start using them for war purposes.
I’ll say it again, Ryan and Will together made for some of the greatest Whiskey Media content. Happy Hours, Lantern Runs, that stupid Wikipedia panel they did. Hilarious dumb fun.
Farewell Mr. Davis. I suspect China do care.
