So happy you gentlemen are back. Works been rather boring with no Tested Podcasts. Will I’ve been wondering, why is there red tape over your apple logo?
OCTOBERKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST
Norm – If you hard boiled eggs are coming out dry and powdery you are super over cooking your eggs. This is one of my super pet peeves, I’m sorry for the rant. To get a perfectly cooked hard boiled egg, put eggs in a pot with cold water. Bring it to a hard boil. Turn down to a simmer and let go for 8 mins. Take eggs out of hot water and shock into ice water. Peel eggs and they are perfect. 95% of people overcook eggs and they come out powdery and yucky.
IPHONE AND GARY!!!! I love Gary’s thought process as he goes from “this new one is shit” to “I am standing in line getting one” (or the new I’m a dad version of this which is Gary mashing the refresh button at midnight on the Apple store)
Seriously it’s cool when Gary can find the time to drop by.
Talking about phones not aging well, have you seen this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDAw7vW7H0c#t=98
In the state the phone market is right now this will never happen, but I think is an AWESOME idea
(not as simple as the video suggest thou)
I’m two hours late, but I managed to crawl out of bed (on my day off) to watch the ‘Cast.. 🙂
The Galaxy S3 has a magnesium internal frame.
From iFixit:
But why magnesium? If you take a look at your old pal, the Periodic Table, it is one of the lightest metals – more so than even aluminum. Additionally, its high strength makes it ideal for providing structural support where weight is a major concern.
Yay Podcast!
After a crap-tastic past few days, this should make things at least slightly more enjoyable. Thanks, guys.
Seems like a poorly thought concept project, but a beautiful beautiful dream
Apple talk stops at 1:06:13 🙂
The breakfasts of champions (in no specific order): cold pizza, PopTarts (frozen or otherwise), bagels and lox with cream cheese, PB&J with banana slices and some form of caffeinated beverage (normal coffee, Cuban coffee, tea, soda) that is not Red Bull or some such. Some caffeine is good; a drink with enough of the stuff to jumpstart a coma patient isn’t.
On the Humble Bundle, it isn’t a dollar more for Steam keys, it is just that your donation must be over $1. Apparently it was in response to people setting up multiple steam accounts for a penny (http://blog.humblebundle.com/post/14549340777/1-min-price-for-getting-steam-keys) to game Steam’s raffles and marketplace. Honestly though, I’m fine with it either way. I’ll almost always try to beat the average anyway.
It would be nice if the swearing could be eliminated. There is noting in this podcast that needs to be R rated.
Hi guys, love the podcasts, but, don’t you think a 2 hour long podcast it’s too long? 20 or 30 minutes to me is more than enough, perhaps split this long episodes in shorter ones?
cheers
For the uninitiated, what is oktoberkast?
Octoberkast (OCTOBERKAST?) is a 24 consecutive hour livestream/podcast Will, Norm, Gary, do in order to raise money for Child’s Play. Throughout the 24 hour span, there are various guests. Mad Libs have been a part of the show the last two years. Last year, notable events was a Minecraft Lego building set race between Norm and Will and Joey doing 1000 push ups over the 24 hour span (#gunsforkids).
On the subject of liquid breakfast. I am a huge fan of Carnation instant breakfast:
Protein, calcium, vitamins and it tastes just like chocolate milk, so Norm, if you want to drink your breakfast, this is the way to go.
Awesome podcast this week, I was LMAO at Gary’s immediate reaction to the idea of a cosplay rave being a rapid descent into cross-fandom slashfic.
2 – 2.5 hours is perfect IMO. Really looking forward to Octoberkast.
I don’t eat breakfast either. I’m one of those odd intermittent fasting people trying to slim their waistline. Though it is said that eating food improves brain activity.
..
You should put some kind of graphics into the beginning of the video instead of the black screen. The black screen makes me always think that there is something wrong in my end when I don’t get picture or sound.
I enjoyed you reading but not answering my question…
By the way I don’t ski all the time. It is just a place we go to on the weekends with the kids. I live in Munich so it is in Austria!
What is the output of a cheaper solar panel?
And how much does an immersion heater need?
You know the small ones you just plonk into a kettle with the really bad energy footprint.
Here are some guests I’d like to see for Oktobercast…Leo Laporte, John Dvorak, Ryan Scott
It’s called Oktobercast, not Trollolololcast.
64 bit processors are faster because you can manipulate larger amounts of memory with each instruction. This means fewer instructions for math (multiplication in particular involves a lot of separate instructions) and more data per load operation (pulling stuff from RAM into registers, etc). Essentially, expanding the register width opens up lots of opportunity for efficiency in high-data functions, and that’s before we even get to the general speed increase from a newer chip.
I came for the video of the dude eating the chilli, and getting kicked in the balls, and didn’t see it.
So here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwujS8a175k
You guys just gave me more reasons to go to Dragon-Con …. 😉

Gunslinger Books – Presumably Stephen King‘s Dark Tower Series?
John Scalzi – Redshirts, Old Man’s War.
I think that was about it other then mentioning Harry Potter and The Hunger Games in a fleeting comment about YA (Young Adult) fiction.
If people want, I’ll throw the amazon links in there too.
I’v always wondered whether Gary gets paid any money for doing these podcasts.
Will, I have two questions:
1 – whatever happened to that cheap-o memory foam mattress topper you were testing a while back. I didn’t hear the verdict on it.
2 – is your avatar a picture of you running around with a Shake Weight?
Norm would fit right in then!!!
Hot Pepper Lego? How about Hard Boiled Egg Lego?
