  1. That’s big news indeed! (No, not the Apple stuff.)

I hope we can get an episode with Gary Will and Norm before it’s is all over.

  2. 30 – 50x current LTE = shitty cable modem speeds?

I just tested my LTE in Canada, on what many would widely say is our worst carrier, and I got D:57.21;U:22.48Mbps!!!

I think our fasted retail cable modem is 250Mbps. Most people buy in the Down:15-60Mbps; Up:10Mbps for home internet.

  3. Good luck on the new project Will, I look forward to seeing what you do!

Re: productivity and Number of windows.

I often have many many windows open, and when I’m in Linux they are open across multiple work spaces. So for example for UI customization for the product that I work on, I’ll have 2 or 3 instances of windows explorer open to drag from various work folders to a skin folder. Plus an instance of Notepad++ for editing XMLs and Dreamweaver for editing CSS and some HTML. A PDF with the customers UI customization form, photoshop and Illustrator, and at least one SSH terminal open to the server for updating files on the server side.

Even when I’m just doing programing work, I’ll have multiple instances of notepad++ or Geany open to make it easier to move back and forth between whatever I need to reference and what I’m working on. In addition to web browser for research and the docs for whatever I’m working on. Plus terminals to push/test/compile code as I work.

I just can’t imagine being locked in to one Window open at a time.

  4. Your point is well made. A lot of LTE still sucks. But even at 30x10Mbps that’s still faster than our current fastest retail cable speeds in Canada. My point was simply that LTE speeds are currently already better than shitty coax speeds. In a lot of areas 5G sounds like it will probably be equivalent to what a lot of people are getting in FTTH.

By the way, congrats on your new adventures. I’ve personally been looking at ways I can invest in VR, I really believe this technology can change the world.

  5. That’s big news indeed! (No, not the Apple stuff.)

I hope we can get an episode with Gary Will and Norm before it’s is all over.

    Agreed

  6. Will, you will be missed. I’ve enjoyed the years in the past, but I am glad to see you leaving to do something you are passionate about. Tested will not be the same without you, but I trust Norm, Joey and the rest of the team to keep Tested a vital part of my week.

As for “replacements” for Will I would be happy to see Jeremy on more of the show. I have thoroughly enjoyed every episode Jeremy has appeared in, particularly the episode where he helped Adam with his Star Trek Captain’s Chair. Jeremy has been a “host” on This Is Only a Test” for quite some time now and I think now would be an excellent time for Jeremy to become a true weekly host along with Norm. From what I have seen in TIOAT I think Jeremy (if interested) could also be great for product reviews and other content on the show.

I guess what I am saying here is “I want to see more Jeremy!” I am a fan of his character and his knowledge and think he would make a wonderful “official” member of the Tested team.

  7. That’s really great and all, and imma let you finish [in my best Kanye voice] – but WHERE ARE THE McWOPPERS? You better have one before you leave or these tears im crying will be for not.

  8. I happened to be watching this whilst charging my phone nearby. You saying hey Siri woke her up every time. Thankfully 9.1 is supposed to introduce individual recognition for the new phone.

  9. i am building a telerobotic rover to work as a remote control camera dolly for 360 spherical video recording. its to remove the cameraman from the picture but still making the camera mobile. you can see info about it on my mobile VR portal site thenewsbubble.com and facebook.com/thenewsbubble. i would like your comments on the project and suggestions on whats needed.

  10. you should look at the videos and images from bubl.io being made be the bublcam i have posted several 360 spherical videos in my youtube channel that do stereo for gogle cardboard

  11. Are you going to still be popping in from time to time?

I must say that tested won’t be the same without you you’ll be missed.

  12. About burst photos in phone and editing them.

Hey guys think that you have missed something! That feature was in Nokia 1020 released over two years ago or some features where released in 8080 purview early 2012. Sadly when Microsoft bought Nokia cellphone division they buried development of so called “monster camera” on cellphones. Trust me some of my friends used to develop these camera features.

  13. I could make gifs on my Windows Phone two years ago with Nokia Cinemagraph.

There are a bunch of apps on Android that can do it too.

I don’t know anything about Apple products so I can’t speak to that.

  14. Not gonna lie. Im gonna miss you Will …Im really please for you at the same time. Good luck with your new endeavours into VR.

I have every bit of faith in Norm taking the site to the next level with the help of Adam, Jamie, Joey Jeremy and guests.

Would be great to see you back for an Octobercast sometime (for the kids).

If your ever in Munich, hit me up for a beer!

  15. Bummed to see go Will, at least it sounds like you will still be popping in when you have the time. I think tested will be in good hands. Norm has been doing some awesome stuff and I can’t wait to see what he’s got coming.

If I could make one small critique, I honestly love the stuff Jeremy does the builds, his projects, and his opinion on most stuff but I can’t help but say if you are going to be a full time tester maybe ease up on the “Apple Juice”. I don’t hate apple I just think other companies also make cool stuff, but it seems like Jeremy will blindly buy all that is apple even if better options exist. Ive always appriciated that despite enjoying apple products Will comes to the table with an open mind when it’s testing time.

Anyway, best of luck Will and I’m really not trying to be a dick Jeremy you’ve just got some big shoes to fill.
