The Rooms Where It Happens – Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project – 12/13/16

We find out how many miles Adam has traveled this year, as we recap another whirlwind travel week that kicked off with a visit to the White House Christmas party. Adam talks about his favorite parts of that visit, a recent conversation with Guillermo Del Toro, and coming home to go behind the scenes of the Lion King musical!

  1. One approach for having more outdoor and active content could be to build and test out your own transportation/movement devices. Similar to the strandbeest that Adam made, it would result in very interesting build videos leading up to a reveal video where the creation is tested in multiple environments/situations. Colin Furze is a good example, the hoverbike he built is pretty awesome, and his enthusiasm for building makes the build videos pretty fun to watch.

  2. Adam,

One option for you to get your driving fix is to join the SCCA. There are local autocross events all over the country. I did a little research and Solo2.com should show events near you. These are not road racing events, they are low speed, generally less than 45mph, precision driving, timed events usually in a large parking lot or some industrial complex. Drivers are sent out one at a time on course or spaced so there is no chance of two drivers being anywhere near each other on course at the same time. These are drive what you have events so even your Prius has a class.

  3. Other options in your area Adam are Golden Gate Drift or Sonoma Drift. Bunch of good guys up there and they should have some practice days throughout the year. After learning from Conrad you should be fine.

  4. On YouTube “Veritasium” and “SmarterEveryDay” has done the experiment to correctly show the Corriolis effect on water draining out of a tub.

  5. The sound quality for the podcast doesn’t seem to be a true as it was before. There seems to be more room echo in audio for Will especially. This seems to be the case as of the podcasts for December. I went back to November and the sounds was cleaner.

  6. Great photography. Lighting and saturation are awesome. Norm is a bit blurry, but that works for him (haha).

I look forward to Norm’s Inspire 2 review. That thing is a beast. If you can, please try to incorporate some complex shots with 2-person control. Sounds like you may be planning to show some high-speed “follow-me” shots. As a new owner of the Mavic Pro, it will be fun to see a deep dive into the other end of the DJI product line.

Kudos to Adam for his efforts to describe his DC visit without talking politics too much. He proves that it is entirely possible to discuss a visit to the White House without getting too political. (Though I am sure he was holding it in big time) 🙂

However, it is very clear that Norm shut Adam down before he went into his political thoughts. You can see Norm’s reactions in his eye movements as Adam said “I’m about to explain my complicated emotions about this election” and then Norm changed the focus! Excellent! Adam barely discussed politics again after that “segue”. Thank you for that. Because Adam’s story about the limited working space etc was fascinating.

    Good episode!

  7. I hadn’t bothered to watch the 35 accents video (i cant remember why i avoided it) and finally did after hearing you guys talking about it and holy shit! so good 😀 glad i finally did 😀
