We welcome special guest Ian Cole this week to recap another amazing Bay Area Maker Faire! Along with Adam, Ian is on the board of Nation of Makers, and organizes maker spaces in Florida. Guess I should go to Maker Faire Orlando in October now that I know it exists.
“Stay curious and make stuff”
Great podcast! I’ll be looking to see if I can find some local maker faire.
Mobile maker spaces are a big goal of the nonprofit network project I am currently working on, as well. Reaching under served communities in areas where access to materials and opportunities is basically nonexistent is a huge challenge.
As a software programmer It took me a long time to realize that I make stuff. It’s not tangible to most people, I can’t easily share it, but I get enthused about it and want to show off cool things I’ve done. I still want to make more physical stuff, but I’ve stopped berating myself over not making anything.
Adam is wearing the same shirt from the “Sunday Sermon”….:-)
I like “Always be making.”
Adam, as a pianist, could you revisit your piano action project for me? This is my Steinway action demo. Cheers
In my opinion, one of the best Maker Fairs is the one in Michigan at the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village.
On top of the various things being shown, you also have the ability to look at the various displays in the museum and family members that aren’t as interested in the fair have the option to wander the village…which is great on its own as well.
i like the stay curious part – that’s such a good sentiment. how about ‘stay curious and [insert episode-appropriate prompt here]’ because you don’t always talk about making.
so it could be ‘stay curious and watch more weird films’ or ‘stay curious and eat new food’ or… whatever else fits the topic and mood of the episode.
my organization has a Kickstarter for a Nonprofit Mobile Maker space designed for kids running right now. Our goal is to serve communities where a brick-and-mortar Maker space will never be built. A little help Spain the word would be great!

Adam, Norm, and Will,
The sign off should be a variation of one of my favorite quotes from Mythbusters, “Remember kids, the only difference between science and screwing around is writing it down.” Great sign off for untested.
I like that one! “Stay Curious and Make Stuff!”
Considering the name of the podcast is a running joke that you all couldn’t come up with a name for it i think a perfect outro would be something like “still no outro”. like “ok that’s it for us this week. we still have no outro. goodbye!”
I like this! or something like “We’ll make and outro, eventually!”
So we already have a small Hall of Fame in our makerspace with a picture of Adam as Totoro on our wall. Now we must only convince him of actually visiting us! (For more info: http://www.facebook.com/TecLabGT)
I went to La Machine last year when I was in Nantes, it was really the highlight of the trip a great combination of incredible machines and spectacular performance.
Adam,
I saw this in a dusty junk shop in Oberlin Ohio and thought you might enjoy Maney’s classic tome, It’s Fun to Make It Yourself.
Yer Old Pal,
Dan.
Dear tested, I love you guys and you have inspired me to proceed even when everyone said it was impossible. I have made a perpetual motion machine and I want to thank you for that inspiration.
