Podcast - This Is Only a Test
Episode 431 – No Transitions Necessary – 1/11/18
Norm is away in New Zealand, so Kishore and Jeremy are joined by game development legend Mike Mika of Other Ocean Interactive. We chat about the Vive Pro and other VR announcements from CES, the pre-blackout most interesting hardware at CES so far, and its award season, so we hand out the 1st ever Tested awards for our favorite media, games, and hardware of 2017. RIP Tested transition music.

Joey should check out Garage Project if he wants to try great local beer in Wellington.
There are no show notes…. Arrrrrrrgggggghhhhh!
Oh shoot – I put them in the wrong folder. I’ll move them – give me a few minutes!
Here’s the link to the NVIDIA article https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/01/02/technology/ai-generated-photos.html
Show notes are up – sorry I put them in the wrong place earlier.
Thanks… That Arrrgggghhh was wit a smile on my face.
to me the ultimate flexible display would be a 1/2 inch in diameter by 10 inch tube that would contain a rollout up screen in it that is an iPad. heck a small screen on the outside to display an incoming phone number it is then your phone and tablet.
We use the Vive at work (civil engineering firm) to allow our clients to walk around their finished site/building etc. and it would be great to be able to have a wireless headset, so we don’t have to worry about cable management for people who have never used the system before.
Where can I find the show notes? Thanks in advance

I would actually be surprised if the Vive Pro standalone was more than $500, and I would expect something more in the $300-$400 range. Consider, if you add up the costs for buying the base stations and controllers by themselves, and subtract that from the price of a normal Vive, you’re left with ~$270. The added improvements probably increase the price by $100-200.
Wow! I tried really hard not to yell out “SHAO-MEE” on the bus this morning ;p “Show me” is close enough for rock and roll. For future reference, in Mandarin Pinyin: xi ~= “sh” (but more sibilant – front of mouth); sh ~= “sh” (but more back of mouth); q ~= “ts” (front of mouth “ch” sound); ch ~= “ch” (more back of mouth “ch” sound)
30:50(ish) – Time might have actually slowed down as I watched the ZF-1 and Needler almost come crashing down on Mike.
Gotta disagree about the second season of Stranger Things; I thought it was great, possibly even better than the first season. The addition of Sean Astin, Paul Reiser and the red-headed girl was great, it was good to see more family life of the boys, the developing relationship between Eleven and the sheriff was awesome, and there was a large reduction in Winnona Ryder’s shrillness from season 1. Plus, an excellent ending/school dance scene with Dustin was pitch perfect, and a baby Demagorgon dog.
Also (because.. no edit???) maybe it’s just time to upgrade to a diet coke bandoleer? 🙂
the awards show thing was good, but shouldn’t it focus o stuff Tested did? Also a better name, though it was funny.
Ooh – thats a good idea. Hard to do that without Norm around though.
i do vote for keeping the name, though.
no matter how you see it, voting on the best things you yourself did last year is either a ballsy move or masturbatory. both testes. qed.
