Thanks for the tribute to Mr. Bourdain, you guys. I too found myself sadder than I would have expected about this loss. I never considered myself much of a fan… although I enjoyed several of Anthony’s episodes… something about him, perhaps his authenticity… or his vulnerability… was particularly touching.
I wish we could get better at identifying each others’ pain… and engaging each other to relieve it.
Still gutted. 100% gutted.
Favorite episodes of No Reservations are first Beirut in 2006 and then Back to Beirut in 2016. Full-on immersion into a world and a spirit that I had never experienced and now try to apply to life daily. Carpe Diem.
The other thing vinyl cutters can do that laser cutters can’t is… cut vinyl. Specifically, lasercutting PVC creates toxic, corrosive gases, so is generally counterindicated. Not a problem with the vinyl cutter!
I’m definitely going to have to look into a vinyl cutter as a kind of CNC-intro device for the kids.

Allow me to strongly recommend “Magnificent Desolation: The Long Journey Home from the Moon” by Buzz Aldrin. Available from Amazon and no doubt many other places.
There are a couple of chapters from Bourdain’s books that I can listen to the audio-book of at any time, and enjoy them as much as I did the very first time I heard them.
From Kitchen Confidential the second to last chapter in which he travels to Tokyo for the first time is an absolutely amazing piece of travel writing, it has a balance of evocative settings, the sensation of disorientation and wonder that anyone who has travelled to Asia in particular should recognize, and high level food-porn that just transports you and makes you want to eat fish-eyeballs and noodles for the rest of your life.

I was very disappointed In 1st Man the book and stopped reading it after realizing I just spent 5-6 pages covering a report card from his first flight training. While I enjoy detail that’s a bit over the top for me.
I have searched out and visited those places that Anthony Bourdain visited locally and in my travels and have not been disappointed in any of them so far.
“Au Pied de Cochons” is an amazing restaurant, I try to visit it every time I’m in Montreal. Sit at the bar, talk with the staff. The chef/owner also has a sugar shack I’ve been trying to get reservations to, unfortunately for me the reservations disappear as fast as popular concert tickets do.
Thanks, guys. Anthony Bourdain’s death has been pretty hard for me to take and I appreciate the kind discussion about him. Most especially, I’m glad you praised his writing, and the show as an extension of that, because his writing is what profoundly influenced me. I travelled and loved food before being introduced to him but did so from gut instinct, something that was nebulous. His writing gave it form and voice and allowed me to explore and delve into that love and it became a defining thread in my life. I miss him greatly already.
As for favorite episodes of his shows, I think the Spain episode of No Reservations was one of the best. I also went to many restaurants he featured but the best has been the tiny yakitori joint in Tokyo (sadly, I can’t find the name). I make regular trips to Japan to visit my wife’s family and I use his visits as a guide each time. That place is well off the beaten path and is amazing.
+1 for Au Pieds de Cochons. My family really enjoyed and apprciated the content that Mr Bourdain produced, and whenever we travel we would look back on some old episodes of shows like The Layover for inspiration on where to eat. Our favourite and most memorable was during our trip to Rome, where we went to all of the places form the show. We were never disappointed. He was much beloved by our family and will be missed.

I love my Silhouette cutter
I went to Silhouette early because you could import your own images in the software. Circuit is the one you had to buy every single designs. They jump in the train of importing later on.
Funny fact: I own and use a vinyl cutter, but no regular printer! XD
