Just a quick clarification.
1) Norm, you should DEFINITLY go see Cirque du Soleil.
2) They are not a French company, they are a (french) Canadian company.
I usually never mind listening to spoiler.s But I’m a bit bummed I listened to these spoilers.
If you didn’t watch the movie yet don’t listen to these spoilers!
Nice, never toughed my knowledge on bmx would come in handy here.
I’m the coach of the olympic freestyle team in Belgium (but i’m here because i’m a maker and a 3D printer and lasercut nerd) The riders in cirque du soleil are not former olympic riders, they are riders that are still competing, and are the best in the world. the same ones you see compete at the X-games and people who ride for like red bull and monster. Joël Bondu is a french canadian rider that rides for cirque, but they also fly him to all the world cups so he can compete and gain points to qualify for the 2020 tokyo olympics. cirque du soleil even went so far to start a official Freestyle BMX organisation in Canada, because the official cycling organisation didn’t care to much about anything that was not road or MTB cycling. other riders in this show that i know are A.J. from the USA and then are some more canadian riders in it.
The fun thing for them is that they don’t have troubles with preforming the tricks, as they could already do them. 90% of their practice goes in to “acting” “posing” and “dancing”. where that for a gymnast is 2nd nature this is very hard for freestyle bmx riders. But the riders i know who do this, and some who where in the last Ringling brothers circus all love the job. It’s how i and most of the pro bmx riders make our money, by doing demo’s and shows. so being able to be part of such a big show is just awesome. For this show i know Kenny Belaey a multi times world champion Trial riders was involved with the choreography.
I love that you shared this info because I’ve been wondering about their background ever since watching the show. Do you have any information about the rider that injured himself about a month ago in San Francisco? They had to cancel the following show. Last I heard he was recovering but I don’t know the circumstances of the accident.
the main crew for this is Joël Bondu, AJ Anaya, Ryan Guzman, Kevin Fabregue and jeffrey whaley. I only know the first 2 personally and a month ago AJ was still hurt from a fall. the others are still riding at the moment, so i guess it’s a alternate who was in the show that got hurt. if you have more info about what and when it happend i could maybe find more info. I was riding with Joël in china until 12 november when he flew home for the SF shows, but he is still riding great (and got a new bike sponsor last week, good for him) But anyway, i would not worry to much about it, falling and crashing is a big part of what we do, so it’s very normal to be 3 months of our bike during a season. We always get back up.
for those who want some more info from the riders in the show:

Amazing info. Thanks for sharing (and sorry about being wrong – but happily so in this case). World is always so small!
So, what happened to having spoilers at the end of the podcast?
I listen to the podcast so I dont have a red light to follow, and your times are never accurate. Once the spoilers start I’m not listening to anymore of the show.
