When are you guys going to discuss the recent public 70mm screening of the unaltered version of Star Wars?
I’ve been a die-hard space geek all my life and work just a
mile away from the Udvar-Hazy. It was
all I could do to not skip work and come over there and be “That guy” when I
saw Adam tweet the shuttle pic from over there. The events really were fantastic on the mall. I can’t wait to see the follow up videos.
The contingency sample bag story is really cool because that
was highlighted by Neil in the book First Man. Neil said he was just so wrapped up in photography and wanting the other
camera and film reels given down to him when he first got out on the surface
that he totally was blowing off picking up the “contingency sample” rock that
he was supposed to pick up and “drop in his pocket.” This made no sense to me until I saw the suit and how they did that. He said the flight director and everyone was
getting so pissed off at him and he finally, after they said some stern words
to him on the radio, picked up a rock and threw it in his pocket and carried on
with taking pictures. The bag that held
the rock, was the cloth bag that made headlines when a woman bought it at auction
and had to fight in court to keep and later sell it for a huge profit. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-auction-space/neil-armstrongs-moon-bag-sells-for-1-8-million-at-auction-idUSKBN1A52XF
