Adam Unveils Wired’s Comic-Con 2013 Robot

Wired magazine collaborated with Stan Winston Studios and Legacy Effects to build a one-of-a-kind 10 foot tall robot to roam this year’s Comic-Con. Adam stops by Wired to unveil the mech, which took 24 days to build and has an incredible range of movement.

  1. Just EPIC!

I do wonder if it’s an easy suit to wear or does the user have to be a bit strong to move it around?

  2. Amazing! Took me a second to grasp that the lower arms are the wearer. But still, just the mechanics behind stabilizing the upper torso, not to mention the upper arms, and walking on the stilts at the same time are simply astounding! Also, yeah, regardless of the rigging and the upper arms, the lower arms have to be heavy to wear, so I imagine the stunt guy is pretty built and is still at least getting a break or a change out every so often.

  3. Pretty cool that he introduced himself as being from “Tested.com and Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters” 😀

Also, why the fuck aren’t animatronic robots this size in every film, ever?

  4. Wow. And the army are not building mech suits yet..? This thing clearly proves it’s possible 😀

  5. Holy shit! I really hope they had a documentary crew filming the build, because that’s definitely something I’d like to see.

  6. What’s great is that looks like a more advanced version of the Goro suit they designed for Mortal Kombat 1.

  7. Just EPIC!

No matter how light they made the thing I imagine it takes a pretty fit individual to wield that thing.

    Pretty bad-ass.
