Adam Savage Builds a Onewheel Electric Skateboard!

Adam’s an unabashed fan of the Onewheel electric skateboard–he’s owned every model and uses it to get around San Francisco. To learn more about how the Onewheel is designed and built, Adam visits the factory in the Bay Area where they’re built and assembles his own XR board!

  1. I can’t stand on a skate board on level ground, but the One Wheel looks neat. I’d like to try it, but I have to upgrade my insurance coverage first.

  2. Very interesting that the BMS is using the hexTronik XT60 connector! This was so widely hated on when released, now we’re seeing it crop up all over from DJI to FMI, RIP Deans.

  3. Maybe someone can tell Adam about tyre soap.

they had a big tub of it right next to where he was struggling to mount the tyre

  4. Vinyl wrap. Either buy automotive rolls, or search for the Onewheel-specific wraps some people sell. The latter costs more relative to how much wrap you get as they are laser cut to be peel and stick without any trimming by you. The former gives you extra, which you have to trim yourself, but gives you extra to re-cover as it gets worn through use.

  5. Hey – so on various Facebook OW riders / Owners pages, there’s wild speculation on why the max speed Pushback occurs at is 15mph. Is it a legal thing? (Pushback actually slightly speeds you up due to the physics involved and above 19Mph is technically above the limit of an e-board device). Or is it a tolerance thing (safest top speed for the average rider that still leaves a safe margin of torque). Or both?

Does Adam have any insider insight on this? Many advanced riders want the option to turn off Pushback, or have an alternate way of warning the rider. I say Pushback is the only feasible way to warn of approaching the limits of the board. Thoughts?

  6. I just don’t understand how it’s possible to make these work so seamlessly, but we can’t buy a simple EV conversion for classic cars.
