Replicating Neil Armstrong’s Apollo Spacesuit!
Adam Savage takes a look at the fabrication process for detailed life-size replicas of Neil Armstrong’s Apollo 11 spacesuit created for the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum Apollo at the Park program. Here’s how 3D scans of the historic suit were turned into a 1:1 3D print, molded, cast, and then painted to be displayed in ballparks across the country!

Any idea if they are going to release the 3D model files used to create the printed suit to the public?

Love you Adam, but more one-day-builds please! I’m not a spacesuit or VR goggles fan, so the content at Tested is getting a little thinner for me than in previous years.
That rotating moulder of the suit made Adam look like Aughra with her Orrery.
They showed 3d prints of a few parts in a video talking about Frank’s new shop and 3d printing the entire mold IIRC. I think Frank’s business just took off like crazy (I believe he had to move to a bigger shop, twice) and he hasn’t had time to work on it.
I wonder how after doing a stone balancing sculpture what the end result woul be with this type of 3D printing . I belong to world wide community that could use this technology. For examples of the possibilities check out gravityglue.com by Michael Grab. For obvious reasons glue is not an option.
Really amazing tech went into this replication… It’s nearly perfect in every way but that visor is a real let down. The original is clearly a lot more reflective than the painted version. I wonder what the choice was here and too bad Adam didn’t ask about it. (Though knowing his attention to detail I bet he did and they chose not to show the answer for some reason)
