I hadn’t heard of the zero, I’ll have to get one to play around with. Just got my C.H.I.P, seems more easily useful (built in wifi and 4 gb storage). Though I think my next projects might just use the esp8266. Not a full computer though. just a microcontroller with built in wifi for around $2.50 if you order from ebay.
Would be neat to make a cheap tablet out of this, could use it with a chromecast but yes, will need a wifi adapter!
at the theater i work, we use a raspberry pi to let the audience save points for coming to the theater or doing a workshop.
the Pi is connected with a RFID card reader and a small 240 pixels screen.
if they touch there personal card against it, it connects to a database and add’s a point to there account, and then shows the saved points on the screen. They then can use those points to get free stuff. Like 5 points will give you a free ticket to come view a movie on Monday evening.
as for the zero, think for a few seconds that the computer on Apollo 11 was running at 0.05 MHZ and had 64K memory. I also guess nasa payed more than $5.
I set up my Zero as an OctoPi server. The only trick is you need to use one of the nightly build images so you get the updated version of Raspbian that works on this device. Being a headless server, it’s the slightly cheaper option to run my PrintrBot wirelessly.
I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a cheap automatic french press machine, to prepare my coffee for me while I wake up. All I really need is something that can execute a few basic commands with simple input, but I’d also like to be able to have something that I can send a text to or use bluetooth to program the night before. Raspberry pi and arduino boards are something I’m still deciphering, so any information on this would help. Thanks all.
